Well I think its down to the selection tool. That fucker grabs everything. Pretty counter intuitive that ctrl a won't grab everything. Only when the folder is open? Coo coo.

The selection tool is a beast though, that thing will cut everything outside of the selection. Does it respect zero crossings? Naw I don't think it does. Nope, it doesn't.

The problem is with midi tracks, yeah? The instrument track automation follows along. But midi track automation is two folders deep in another track? WHAT. Are u kidding? :2:

Okay, fuck it maybe I'll buy a mac. Don't even let depone hear that shit. I could be one of those fucking mac people.

:funkband:

zoom into the automation environment

it's only clunky when zoomed out

Got a more pedestrian problem -

I like having my mixer set up the same way everytime, to the extent that its possible. For all the regulars, kicks snares hats bass etc I like to have everything in the same place. But it seems that cubase changes the mixer channel location according to the tracks position in the project window. I know this made a bunch of sense to a german software engineer who's never mixed in his life, hell, he probably got a german of the month award for it, but it provides no benefit to me. In fact, it's a royal pain in the ass.

So is there anyway to move tracks around in the project window, which is great btw, like being able to to compare two tracks, like looking at congas next to snares for rhythmic reasons, but without having my channels getting all mixed up in the mixer? I can't find shit, cause its always in a different location!

Feeling the love in the cubase circle :w:

nowaysj, I'm not sure if this will help, but there's an option in the preferences that says "Sync Project and Mixer Selection"...maybe that does it?

By the way, I just want to say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how you can't drag and drop from the Import Audio browser anymore in Cubase 5 (maybe 4 as well?)...what a load of :q: Not sure I'll be upgrading just yet, since this is my main way of working and it takes way too long to preview samples in the MediaBay.

Bro, I'm back to using vlc to preview samples.

How can you even preview samples when the preview stops the track from playing. That doesn't even make sense to me man. You have to hear the sample in context. What are u supposed to do, remember the exact spectrograph of your track to find something that fits in?

PS - c and d - I think the pref you were talking about selects the mixer channel when you select a project page track. Which is a helpful feature. I just want my mixer channels to stop moving around!!!

Please someone tell me there is a way to prevent mixer channels from moving around!

86, that is a tough one. I think steiny pisses me off more. There is just a whole assortment of bad ui ideas in here. But for what I need to do, steiny is the way to go for me. Will check out reaper and re check out stuido one when I get a chance. I'd like to fully wrap my mind around the cube first though. It is a powerful program. All this fucking tool switching and zooming. Argh. And the moving mixer channels, seriously man, just think about it for a second...

I'm trying to wait for the 5 powertools, which comes out in december. Should just pick up the 4 powertools now though. Trying to be mature and patient.

So deadly, any help with the moving mixer channels?

Anybody have any tips for this one? Deadly I know you've bigged up Shortcircuit in the past, don't go and tell me now that you don't use it :D

edit: so I think I'm gonna have to buy version 4...I can't find a way around this unless I use the Media Bay, but the Media Bay in Cubase 5 is fucking TERRIBLE, as it takes a second before the sample plays.

Interestingly enough, I can drag-and-drop from the "Search Media" window, AND it auto-plays instantly...but there's no folder structure

MAN I AM SO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW

Did you try it? There's a separate option for what you're talking about in the same section in the Preferences, but the one I mentioned is different from that. I'm not on my studio PC now though so I can't test it out.
