Pilot to Bombardier

My dubstep co-conspirator and I work together at the same time, seated next to each other, on two separate computers linked via MIDI, and run both our soundcards through the same monitors. Of course since neither one of us is centered in front of the monitors, I hear everything left-heavy, he hears everything right-heavy. For obvious reasons it's affecting our mixes negatively...

Has any body else found a solution for this situation? We don't want to use headphones (mostly for communication reasons).

The best thing I can come up with is the "pilot to bombardier" setup:
I'm going to set up my computer on a new desk directly behind his, so that even if we're different distances from the monitors, at least we're both in the center.

Any suggestions for this situation appreciated...

hmm, if your facing back to back, you'll hear all panning in reverse, obviously... maybe, if you have a big enough room you could set up two desks side by side in the middle of the room, facing the same way. then you could have your monitors far enough away and in the corners of the opposing wall so that your both more in the center. thought neither of you would be in the sweet spot, but it would be better.

alternative is to have not 1 stereo out but two mono outs. If your making club music, your gonna probably mixdown to mono anyway.

The mono is an interesting idea. I actually meant I'd be right behind him, facing the same direction (maybe "roller coaster" style is a better description)...
