Buying a mixer - Allen & Heath Xone:32 or Xone:42
Wanting to buy either an Allen & Heath Xone: 32 or Xone:42 mixer...
With the NZ $ being stronger than ever at the moment, now is a good time to buy. What's a good online store that sells the above mixers cheap, and ships worldwide (to New Zealand)
Also - is the Xone 42 worth the extra $$$?
Cheers!

I've got a 42 and its SO SICK. Can't fault it at all. I thought about getting a 32 but I was put off by the fact that the gain knobs are on the back of the console.
I think the layout of the 42 is even better than the more expensive 62 or 92.
Allen and Heath are also a pleasure to deal with as a company. Very friendly and personal service.

AI used an A&H mixer at a club once and could not find the damn gains! had to get someone to help me out who pointed out the gains are actually behind the damn thing.djacroama wrote:Really?????? what an odd design.bizmarc wrote:I was put off by the fact that the gain knobs are on the back of the console

Terrible, terrible layout, avoid at all costs.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

man up you pussies! Xone 32 is THE best A&H mixer - get it straight!
the gains are easy to find...they're on the back but they're at the top, above each channel. not a bad idea if you ask me. no need to fiddle with the gain too much...use the fader...

mix with the line level faders, not the damn gain knobs, ya nobs
love my 32
best 3 channel mixer on the market
Re: Buying a mixer - Allen & Heath Xone:32 or Xone:42
The fades on the x32 are so good I rarely touch the gains - I would on any other mixer but you just dont need to with x32
Build quality is unsurpassed

I guess you dont really need to touch the gains much with Dubstep.
When I have had to play oldskool records (Acid or New Beat) I am constantly touching the gains and that mixes sucks if u need to use them.

I use Torq and it has a built in normalizer
so I never really touch the gains
lucky purchase combo haha
but still, if you set the line levels to zero for a mastered tune and when you play an unmastered tune, just bump the vol up a db or 2 and you are safe

42 if you can afford I reckon, much better filter layout, 4 channel...
It's more like a slightly downgraded 62 than an upgraded 32 imo, which is a good thing for me as I'm actually not a fan of the 4-band EQ on the A&H 62/92...

I know what you mean on the 42. Not that they dont sound good, but its a pain to eq four bands at once!!!thinking wrote:42 if you can afford I reckon, much better filter layout, 4 channel...

But yeah the 42 is near flawless imo

I truly don't see the point of sweepable mids on a dj mixer
trying to make it 1/2 mixing desk 1/2 dj mixer
this is usually the complaint about A&H

nobs ?!!FSTZ wrote:mix with the line level faders, not the damn gain knobs, ya nobs
Gain is essential to be free to use all the faders fast and tight!
How you gonna do a transform without a leveled signal?
you use your mixer like you want, but having an easy accessible and not oversensitive gain control will help a lot for most djs!
If you really want to mix with the level faders, not just slightly adjust, you need gain . . .

I don't like A&H at all tbh. Everyone here uses Pioneer and I don't like those either. Picky tnuc
Give me a Rane or a Vestax. I can't beleive they would put the gains on the back. I like to have my faders all the way up and do the minor adjustments with the gains. I would have to switch my mixing style up to use that thing, fuck that.
Re: Buying a mixer - Allen & Heath Xone:32 or Xone:42
that would be weird for dj'n.. I just thought I would clarify, the 4 band eq on the xone 92, 464, & 62 are LOW, LOW MID, HIGH MID, and HIGHFSTZ wrote:I truly don't see the point of sweepable mids on a dj mixer

the "4th" eq knob is not to sweep the "mid" knob... it is there to allow a better sculpting of frequencies.
that being said, I've never used one! I've only used Tarekith's replica rack for ableton live and midi controllers.
do you think its a horrible idea to install a xone 92 in a club that will have a lot of dubstep dj's spinning?
Re: Buying a mixer - Allen & Heath Xone:32 or Xone:42
I say this in every thread about DJ mixers.
Ecler, I can't stress enough how sick these mixers are.. Great sized knobs, great EQs, nice sound, built very well.. Just a simple mixer none of that silly fx's business.

I got a NUO 3... (not the latest 3.0 - the original NUO 3). Knobs are definitely a good size, everything just works well together, it's a solid practical mixer.. as they should be!
+ Mine has an "eternal" crossfader, good for 40 million fades or something... to bad i use the up faders
Also Vestax is very underrated for mixers, my last mixer was a vestax and it was built like an absolute tank, knobs weren't plastic, whole thing was solid metal (accept the fader knobs which were plastic)
For the price that the pioneer mixers cost, i find they don't "feel" that expensive. I think my next mixer will be an Ecler EVO
P.S i think a 4 band eq could definately be very useful for dubstep
