Dont do spinbacks.

They are a last resort for a DJ who cannot mix. Learn to mix and leave that shit to sloppy djs or hip hop.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

its true.

No decent DJs who can mix will do spinbacks. That goes for all genres of music too.

I have been mixing for a while and the only people who do that are either kids, or people who cannot fix the mix. Dont forget people who are wasted, this is their party trick.

yes...because mak 10, Spyro and any of the grime djs can't mix...

In some genre's its part of the mixing culture

Dont know mac10 but I have seen Spyro and he is actually alright at mixing. DJs who are a little more technical and who are mixing in and out fast will do spinbacks sometimes.

But generally speaking spinbacks are noob and bit of a nono in most genres.

why?

This is common knowledge tbh. Spinbacks make everyone I know cringe. It is the quick root out for someone who is unable to mix 99% of the time.

With the exception of a few talented DJs who do technical tricks and may be doing things fast and want to get rid of the a records in a hurry.

You may hear them a lot in Dubstep because the majority of producers who play out regular cannot mix for shit.

I think they are really effective at times. I also think they are really fun. Especially if you cut the mids and bass. Makes a "weeeeeee" noise.

I think seeing signus who posts on here do a spin back and continue it on for a good 10 seconds. Thought it was cool

:/

A horrible noise extended for longer than necessary is 'cool' ?

I been mixing for many years and not until I started playing Dubstep at clubs did I ever have to rewind a tune. I hate it, absolutely hate it. That reminds me of some prick who was not only annoying me trying to MC (?) but he actually touched my fucking shit while I were playing. Its one thing someone you know doing it but some kid with his hat on sideways is another story.

heh i am a guy who rocks the sideways hat, but when i'm spinning messing with my mix be it a friend who is mcing or not is a no no
used to rewinds from dnb, but even in my dnb sets no rewinds unless the tune was massive and not into mix for next tune

I come from Techno background and spinbacks and rewinds are a laughing matter.

fuck a "rewind", that shit pisses me off to no end, like, "we heard the fucking drop dude, there's another one coming after the breakdown, now we have to sit thru this fucking into again...."

as far as backspins, FUCK YES.

they sound pimp in a mix, like when a track has a vocal sample right before the drop(which a lot of dubz do), backspin the other track right before the vocal, it gives it more "oomph"

but i hardly do it honestly, in a mix anyways.
almost every time i play, i backspin out of the other guys shit, no phrasing, nothing, just backspin his shit as soon as i walk up.

it get's everyone's attention immediately, then i usually drop into the foulest shit i have.

and yes, it is possible on cdj's homeboy, just set it to vinyl mode, you can even get some really precise scratches goin on the new pioneers, very "to the touch" if you will.

That would make you look like a right arrogant tnuc tbh.

It is standard DJ etiquette to leave the record run out or mix into it.

Spinning or stopping the previous DJs record is like saying, get this shit off, daddy is home.

I think a lot of people do use spinbacks to cover up for bad mixing, but there are legitimate reasons for it as well.

Namely, if you want to switch to a whole new bpm (like by 15-20+). Sometimes a nice gradual shifting of the tempo over 10 songs is cool (and what I do in my live sets), but if you are dj'ing and want to drop a whole new flavor, you might want to build the hype less gradually, so you do a long spinback and drop the new track in a whole new tempo.

There are other methods as well- spinbacks are only one of many that a versatile dj will have in their arsenal.
