UK filesharing : ban rule coming April 2010 to the UK
Re: UK filesharing "3 strikes and you're out"
its looking like 2 warning letters, then they'll ban. goes into legislation april 2010, then into effect in 2011.

Re: UK filesharing "3 strikes and you're out"
it's unbelievable human mind can work like this to cover its own shit!borrowed wrote:Because people aren't robbing you, they're getting something for free. There's a difference between stopping you from making money off that particular download, and stealing money from your house. One is money you can have (most likely they wont buy your tunes, but if theyre getting em for free they might as well download them) and the other is money you do have. Don't make it sound like someone's breaking and entering here; its simply cheapass kids who wouldnt pay for music in the first place, not hardened criminals.surface_tension wrote:If someone is robbing you and your only legal recourse is a lawsuit, they can get fucked. It's not about respect. They already don't respect me or why would they be jacking us? I don't want their respect if they want to steal our tunes.dr h wrote:I should also add that I don't endorse piracy at all and run two labels of my own. My point is that constant threats of legal/physical action only make people despise you more. Treat people fairly and they'll usually do the same to you.
it's pure stealing, you take something that the rightful owner doesn't agree for you to take!
back to the topic, this law is just a start, in 2-3 years internet will be nothing like you know it today
more copyright regualtions and shit coming up in us and eu
i'd love to see piracy limited a bit, but that's just secondary here, it's just about control, remember the most watched documentary in the history of internet is zeitgeist, you can't allow that to happen if you're a big decision maker

It's funny how a lot of the people who oppose it, Lily Allen etc, are the people with the most money who make the worst music.
Re: UK filesharing : ban rule coming April 2010 to the UK
a lot of things are funny in this... for example; i've known people who are up in arms and angry about the illegal downloading of music but dont have a problem downloading movies, tv shows or video game iso's. lol

Re: UK filesharing : ban rule coming April 2010 to the UK
this is how i see the difference between dsf stealing dubstep and dsf members stealing movies:
i said it before: thieves should have morals too, you can't steal from the family. you can't afford everything you want/need but too many people afford to support a dozen of artists or labels and they don't just because it's easier to not pay your fav artist than it is to not pay your fav beer company.
you don't afford everything and you can't afford to not pay nothing either because if the money circulating in a scene drop below a critical mass the scene will drop quality and quantity. and you need quantity too, because the larger is the pyramid's base, the higher is the top
it's as simple as: when you see the scene devolving it means you didn't support it enough
happily it's not the case with dubstep yet, but the trend is not good for sure, the awareness increased dramatically but record sales didn't grow proportionally, just the effort of more people. the difference is stolen
would be cool to respect everyone's property, but if you can't, at least look how the film producers live, look how your "most respected artists" in your beloved scene live, judge and invest something monthly to support your real peers, sort of speaking, or you are shit. it's you facing yourself, no one can judge you, but your actions influence the situation and then catch the boomerang.
a scene (whatever that is) is built on fans and performers. you just can't leave it all on performers' shoulders, like it or not, just be aware of the responsibility that comes with the stolen goods. the rest comes naturally
but that's between us, no gov will be able to fix it for us, at least not with these methods

http://www.boingboing.net/2009/10/29/pe ... ma-go.htmlPetition to Obama government to disclose secret copyright treaty
Rishab sez, "Knowledge Ecology International is organising a petition to President Obama to make the US position in negotiations on the secret Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement transparent to the public. Boing Boing readers may remember previous posts on ACTA, the 'throw people in jail for sharing' agreement being developed in secret by rich countries who find the semi-public consultations in forums like WIPO tiresome."
Obama's administration has refused to disclose the drafts of ACTA on the grounds of "national security" (yes, really!), but we know from leaks and memos that it includes universal surveillance of the net; mandatory loss of Internet connections without trial for households where one member is accused of violating copyright; and a duty to search your laptop and personal devices at the border for infringing material.

Re: UK filesharing "3 strikes and you're out"
lol not sure if serious. took me all of 5 seconds to find a link to your release.surface_tension wrote:Go out and look for STNSN002 on a torrent tracker, rapidshare, direct connect, IRC, etc... you won't find it(granted I haven't looked in a few weeks for 002). It was there, but only for about 5 minutes until we manned up and dealt with it. Saying that it's too big a problem for us to deal with ourselves is a copout. I take them down all the time. Yes, they pop back up... yes you have to take them back down. But major trackers can block content with certain known quantities... like your label name, artist names, etc... and they do, because not all of them are like TPB and care about being sued.
Re: UK filesharing : ban rule coming April 2010 to the UK
Things have definitely ramped in the last 3 months. Nowadays if you search for "Artist/Song Title" on most engines you get torrent and direct download links within the first 10 matches. This is clearly some waste behaviour and cannot be allowed to happen forever. The thing is I'm just not sure this is the right way to go about it. How much of our privacy will be lost In order to enforce this law? We're giving control to these e-chumps because of the actions of idiots. Fools to the left, jokers to the right...
This is neither time or the place.

Re: UK filesharing : ban rule coming April 2010 to the UK
yeah don't look at how the people who sort out the lights, or the cameramen, or the cleaners, or the makeup artists, or any one of the hundreds of people involved in making a film who aren't an obscenely rich coke-soaked capitalist pig.would be cool to respect everyone's property, but if you can't, at least look how the film producers live, look how your "most respected artists" in your beloved scene live, judge and invest something monthly to support your real peers, sort of speaking, or you are shit.
because then it'd be much harder to download a film and not care, wouldn't it?
