the whole point of "its shit" and not enough different sounds :
every style of music ever made ever, unless you know your shit really, redundant point.
I think the "london not accepting it" point holds up quite well actually.
interesting topic, thanks for the discussions

people like squire of gothos, raffertie and drop the lime all play 'bassline' or 'niche'
but they, especially the squires play decent shit, actual standard bassline is awful, way to cheesy.

Re: so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
where i live (birmingham uk) bassline is, and always has been big. in the clubs on the radio etc its always got the box ticked. however when i was growing up what i classed as bassline is infact whats called bassline HOUSE, for example - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjvqObjyuGM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOcySOlF ... re=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E56vdDKr318
so what people class as bassline today is what i call "4x4" for example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFHwNoRyTiE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AbRnKOY ... re=related
i know which i prefer, and id wish bassline house was as big as 4x4, but lifes a bitch sometimes and i cannot bring myself liking some samey , over-rinsed pile of tripe that has so many shit mc's spitting over it even devvo wouldnt know what to do with himself.
so i suppose its the same situation as the jump up in the dnb scene - most of it is absolute shit, but theres no need to constantly cuss it because there are some absolute gems in it, you just have to look hard enough. this is the outlook i have on these kind of genres

This.dhaywood wrote:because it wasn't accepted in london, sad but true, if u look at all the other genres u listed they were all accepted and played in london.
And this.dhaywood wrote:i dont know if u ever went to a bassline rave but i been to a couple in sheff, manny and leicster and to be honest there is only so much of it u can take. the same sound gets rinsed all night and almost every drum pattern is identical.

Have you heard the stuff on Set Records?
For the most part anything that is slightly ravey has been given a bad connotation, or dubbed Brostep. I imagine most people will call it brostep if it's bassline.

Forgive me, I'm out of weed.

Triple Drop - Squire of Gothos has bassline and dubstep elements to it, the MC sounds a northern bassline MC as well.

Re: so why havn't Bassline and Dubstep crossed over?
I find it pretty funny/wierd that people are like ITS NOT BASSLINE ITS 4x4
4x4 is a term that's been around way way way before grimey lazer bassline house.
To be fair I like the stuff which is proper fucked Subtractor/Massive patches going mental and the breaky drums, it kinda sounds like a jump up mix of Breakbeat Garage and old Grime instrumentals.
I don't know much about Bassline, I like bits of it and find it fun to mix into some of the wierder dubstep/garagey stuff.
Plus there is a lot of 8bit samples going on at the mo.
Ironically I find most Organ House/modern Speed Garage to be utter utter garbage... maybe Im missing wobbles from dubstep subconciously
