Anthem of 2009!

Post by chrisquinn3 » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:55 pm

I know we've still got two months for a tune to break into this category, but would be your anthem of 2009 so far?

Think mine would be Emalkay - When I Look At You, or Chase and Status - Saxon!

Wanted to see if i've missed any bangers!

*sighs*

what's the criteria for a tune being an anthem of 2009?

is it popularity alone...this being the case then cheryl cole is up there...the tunes you mentioned are nowhere near as popular as her album has been..

why do you need to make this thread?

if i had to choose my personal favourite track from dubstep this year it would probably be LV - cctv or burial - foster care

i suppose there isn't but the 'anthem' culture is part of the problem and the reason why wobblers take over...

generally anthems are lowest common denominator.....when i look at you is alright but bats in the belfry was sorely underappreciated for it's genius...mainly because it was good music

I'd say the exact opposite. Anthems need melodic or lyrical parts that lots of people can hum along or sing along to... that's what gives them the anthemic quality. It's often a bad thing applied to music (stadium rock!), but just occasionally, something special creeps through.

Hearing the entirety of Corsica Studios singing along to Digidesign during the Purple Threeway earlier in the year and hearing countless DJs let the melody creep out of their sets cemented it as an anthem for me.

:)

For me It has been these:

Silkie, Mizz beats - Purple love
Silkie - The Horizon
Untold - I cant stop this feeling
Von D - Show me
Calibre - Diamond dub

Eyez by Mala is up there too but it was the 'anthem' from last year carried on into this year

Okay, it seems the word 'anthem' is causing problems.
How about, just your favourite tune of the year?!
