"CLUB STANDARD" EQUIPMENT

Post by sipsip » Mon Oct 26, 2009 8:17 pm

Hi all -

Does anyone know if there's an accepted "industry standard" cd-deck (i.e. the "1200/1210s" of cd decks)

And is there a standard mixer that you'd find at your average night?

I want to learn on the best setup possible - don't want to get too many surprises when I start playing out, and if most clubs have a particular set-up they can't all be wrong :D

Many thanks

is it best to go for the MK3 deck?

and what would you go for, the djm 800 or allen and heaths? are the allen and heaths worth the extra £££? which ones are worth a look, the Xone:62?

and can you recommend a set of headphones of similar quality?

thanks again mate

Get the MK3s and A&H are worth the extra money.

the thing is that if you are new to djing i would not advise buying that much stuff as your first equip, i mean make sure it is the thing for you, but dont buy shit of course.

but you seem to have shitloads of free money to spend so you could wait for new pioneers to come out (the cdj2000 ones) buy them)

anyway would never buy so much stuff for my home rig.

and ye allen and heath are worth it, i hate all of club mixers tho, i have technics dmc mixer and i find it perfect...prolly just for me.

i'm not new to djing, i can mix with vinyl but looking for cd decks to make getting hold of music a bit cheaper.

don't really want to buy shit of course, but want something that i'm not going to 'outgrow' once i start getting good at using them. since it's a lot of cash to spend i just wanna make sure i get the right shit first time

would anything cheaper be suitable for using at home? still needs to do the job 100% even it doesn't have all the bells and whistles.

do you use cd/vinyl/both?

nice mixer but check out the RANE EMPATH! so much better (than mostly everything)
Had the technics one back around 2000. Can't compare to RANE.

To the original question, you can bring your own mixer, that way you have total control!
And again RANE EMPATH best mixer out there. Both the sound and build is the best for the price!
Sounds much better than everything i'v played on . . .

what is the job? how many inputs/channels you need? do u need midi? do u scratch? do you use effects (how much do u use them) ? how good is your sound system?

edit: i used to play vinyl only, i have a nice collection of oldschool/newschool ragga jungle, because thats where i come from. for some time now(about half a year) i get lots of dubs so i play more cds on the shows nowadays... building my dubstep record collection atm. strictly vinyl for me:) at least for all released stuff:)

the job: needs to be a good cd deck that won't piss me off when i use it

i need at least 2 channels, not bothered about midi. i scratch with vinyl a bit so it would be good to have cd decks i can 'scratch' with. i use effects, but sparingly and my home sound system is good

CDJ-1000 is standard but CDJ-800 will work for a lot less money. We have had big names come through and they were ok with the 800's. I don't think anyone really uses all the features of the 1000 anyway. I think it has a bit faster load time tho. I think that is minor.

DJM800 is pretty standard too. I hate Pio's tho. We have to have them at our club purely because of the headliners we book. Not that impressed by A&H either. Rather have a Rane or higher end Vestax. I think as long as you have a higher end / popular model dj mixer you should be ok.

i was talking about mixer when i asked questions:) , dont even think about choosing a different cd deck, pioneer all the way...

ye djm800 is fine for most occasions, but i am so used to 1000 jog, coz i put it on light all the time...

i mean there are some good denon decks....but still imo pioneers win, prolly just used to them..

Does that look like a good deal? Can anyone find a better deal for something of similar quality?

Or would it be better to get a pair of CDJ800s for £1,350 and spend £400 on a mixer separately?

Or just get CDJ400s instead and save money on the whole thing?

What does everyone reckon? Going to be making a purchase some time next week I think. What's a good cheap site for buying stuff like this?

Thanks again for your help all

How about 100s/200s?

The 400 is sounding more attractive by the second - is there not a noticeable difference between the 400s and the 800s/1000s?

How can they justify charging double the price for 1000s?! :?

For some reason, this is making me think you are trolling for info for a magazine article that you are writing...
