It's a labels job to promote their artists music, the artist's job is too make quality music that his label can then promote and sell. Why does he need to be sold as a performer to sell his music when clearly he's not, thats not 'promoting himself properly'. He should just let someone else DJ his productions and advertise it as a mistabishi showcase rather than a mistabishi dj set and if his label are forcing him to do anything outside of his capabilities he needs find a new label.

Yeah it is, I mean, what else does a label do that requires such a large split of profits? But still, an artist should do whatever they can to promote their work. It only makes sense. If an artist is more effective at promoting than their label, they don't need the label any more.

But again, wasn't he going to do a live set, but he couldn't do it, so he said fuck it?

total pisstake. allow people trying to excuse him, its common sense. how many people would do anything to be playing at the nights he does, then he just takes that arrogant attitude to it and rips off the entire audience. wanker. his tunes aren't even great, i think 'wipe your tears' is the only one that i didnt get bored of after 2 listens.

well its not showbiz, its underground music, its kind of the idea of it that there isnt space for this kind of bullshit.
i dont really care what goes on at hospitality, as i dont really go to dnb nights generally, and yeah people had fun and so on, but for the guy to actually try and justify himself as if what hes doing isnt a complete joke, he can fuck off tbh.

I really don't care about mista at all, or what he did or didn't do :D

But come on, "underground music" isn't showbiz?

this reminds me of this dude who was "DJ-ing" after my mate ellen somewhere in kings cross, he came on after her and shoved in a recording of andy C at some ram records night, then proceeded to jump around like a loon and pretend he was mixing, only problem was that he didn't have anyone standing alongside him pretending to be Eksman, who was also featured on the recording

It's a weird one this. I can see both sides, at one end I'm happy to go on a night out and hear good music, mixed well- at least without fucking jerks/clashes/explosions etc- on a nice system and have a good time, whatever the means is. Though I don't get how you can agree to trick all those coming to see you.

It depends whether you go to see someone because you know they will do all the above things, or because they'll play (their) songs that you really like. I don't dj, I make tunes and I'd love to play them out to people. I don't know how I'd do it exactly, if not mixing then some sort of live jiggery.

I suppose if somebody was gonna fake it, I'd rather they did that than stand around and look bored

Still you have to be a tool to do that

What a total idiot. This shows Dnb and the label up as a whole though that he ended up doing this. Money, publicity, money (repeat). :?

Also, DJing overated?!

i think it really sucks when people do shit like this, and the people who are doing it know that it sucks because they wouldnt go to all the effort to make it look like they were doing something on the decks if they thought it was ok. when you think about some of the artists on the scene it makes these guys seem like real cop outs, take goth-trad for example, anyone whos seen him live knows what he does and its fucking amazing and i'd pay alot more to see goth trad live because you'll see a show thats different from anything he's released on vinyl and different to other shows hes done, to be honest i would feel let down if i payed to see an artist and they just pranced around on stage like a dick.
