Festival for adventurous music and related visual arts
Club transmediale is an experimental platform for innovative and experimental music and for media art in the context of sound- and club culture. Founded in 1998, club transmediale cooperates with the international media art festival transmediale and annualy realizes a several day festival held simultaneously with the transmediale festival.
DISK – Sound & Image Initiative
DISK is the new organization that co-ordinates all activities and events formerly realized under the direction of club transmediale. DISK organizes the annual club transmediale festival and a number of other activities in Berlin, Germany and abroad.

Spaces – tangible as well as intangible and acoustic – play a decisive role in dubstep music. The genre is inseparably tied to its birth place in London and to certain specific spaces in the city, such as the club night Forward>>. It is a product of the social and cultural environment of the city, the original soundtrack of the multicultural metropolis. Dubstep is the contemporary mutation of London’s urban rave culture, which author Simon Reynolds has once described as the “hardcore continuum”. The most important change this continuum has seen through dubstep is of a spacial/acoustic nature. Its predecessors jungle and UK garage were characterized by intensive and complex beats. Dubstep reduces these rhythmic structures to a core pattern, which leaves its subterranean bass sounds literally more space to breathe. The space between the beats allows for a great stylistic variety, which is represented by the artists who have been invited for this night by Berlin based dubstep collective Freak Camp.
Dubstep has witnessed a period of immense growth in 2006. It has developed from a rather small, local scene into an international phenomenon. The line up of the Freak Camp Session reflects this expansion: The djs and musicians hail not only from London, but also from Belfast, Nottingham and Berlin. Location is not important anymore, it’s the bass that matters. If Sun Ra was still alive, he would certainly agree: Bass is the place!
