Where the fuck are multicolored waveforms in Traktor?

Post by jsilver » Sun Nov 08, 2009 5:00 am

I love Traktor, it's an excellent software and probably the best and most useful DJ software I have ever used. It has fantastic features and FX and is really a pleasure to use.

Serato users have had spectral colored waveform displays for who knows how long and can certify that this is a good and useful feature.

Serato:

Traktor Pro:

Here is a link to NI forums with a user asking for this feature and getting trolled by a mod: https://www.native-instruments.com/foru ... hp?t=77200

Come on. "Missing something in Serato is not a good reason to want it in Traktor." Really?

To the best of my knowledge, Serato does NOT have beatgrids. This is a really huge feature. You can make a very professional mix in Traktor with just a mouse if you know how. To those who don't know what I'm talking about, I point you here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAW8X9RSt7A Big Shout Out to Ean Golden. However, if you want to beatmatch tracks that you haven't made a grid for, you have to find a snare.. If you're recording your mix (or shoutcasting), as I said with no timecodes and no cueing, you aren't gonna want to use your ears. If you can see that a snare is white, there's no chance that you're gonna fuck up. This is exactly why I want this simple feature that someone else asked for a year ago. So what the fuck?

Y wouldn't you grid that shit out beforehand, anyway.

But still, multi colored waveforms is a great idea.

i wanna be able to do this live better without inserting random hits into the mix so i can see that my beat grids are accurate

its not a big problem per se, but it is a feature that id like to help me set beatgrids on tracks that i havent while im playing

it doesnt help if you dj the traditional way, but it does help in serato

you can put together good mixes without beat grids etc

granted, traktor sure does keep you on you're toes when doing it all by ear, but thats the most fun part

i dont know why you wouldn't use em, unless you were using timecodes and a mixer (real DJing)

sync and beatgrids are sort of seperate, unless i'm wrong (im new to this as well)

sync has to do with tempo and basically automatically sets the tempo of the deck for you, relative to the original calculated tempo and the master tempo or the master deck, whichever you have set

beatgrids are just lines for cuepoints to land on, so you can accurately cue the 1st beat, the first drop etc

if the deck your trying to beatmatch's tempo is synced and you have a proper grid, you can just mash Cue #1 on the 1st beat of the playing track and you're 100% beatmatched

your prerogative, but if you decide you do, tutorial in first post is highly recommended and how i learned. if traktor analyzed the tempo correctly, all you have to do is drop a cue on a snare and set it to grid. bit shorter than the way he describes. then after that i drop a cue on 1st beat, and just mash when i hear the first beat of the playing track. good technique.

edit: found this in the manual if it helps anyone
Lighter colors represent high frequency content while darker colors represent low
frequency content.
you just gotta squint because they colors are pretty close. be nice if you could change em atleast

oh well, i guess thats what i want anyway

found this

http://www.tastyfresh.com/component/zin ... sions.html

tho if you do decide to start beatgridding, start on T Pro because it wont read your T3 data (dunno why, seems dumb)

other than that, i dunno. started on T Pro, liking it so far

I use T3 and I beatgrid all of my tracks (when they need it) your right if I had serato I wouldn't either but with T3 it makes it a lot easier to handle especially wen theres 4decks playing. Traktor pro looks pretty sweet and I wouldnt mind getting a copy of that
