FUCKING ABLETON AUTOMATION!!!

Post by prime|evil » Sun Nov 08, 2009 4:02 pm

I actually hate automating in Ableton. I've just switched over from Reason 4.0 to Ableton 7 and I have to say, IT'S FUCKING SHIT!! Not the Daw, I'm really loving the sound quality of it, but to draw in automation in Ableton takes the fucking piss. Does anyone know of a plug in to draw automation easier. I'm not asking for a lot, but it would make it a DAYME site easier!!!!

Cheers fowllow producers!

I'm probably being a whining baby because it's a weird transition from one to t'other. I('ve got use to pretty much everything, but i just hate automating in Ableton. It's too tiny to see and just plain fiddly!! Anyone know if a vst plug in for automation drawing is easier. Even on a 32" monitor I still can't see it properly!!

I think this matter of habit, automation of Ableton Live is convenient, really.

Yeah, like I said, just me being a baby. Didn't want a massive convo about this, just a quick reply. If anyone knows of how to either make it easier to see, or a nice plug in that'll bring up a new box for automation, or some shizz like that, it'll be appreciated. Cheers!!

In Arrange view you can resize the height of each track. Just click one of the edges and drag. Also, in Ableton 8 you can zoom the entire window as well (not sure where bc I don't use it, maybe preferences).

Also, you know you can draw w/ a pen right? Enable draw mode (Command + B).

I use a combo of drawing, breakpoints and copy and pasting.

I totally understand. I have a few grumbles w/ Ableton automation too (most notably the lack of curves).

I love Ableton b/c it's one of those deep, deep programs that you find out new tricks and techniques every day, even years later.

Well at least you know now

Maybe we should ask questions first and then if not answered to satisfaction, then slag the program off, or RTFM!

Curves would be nice, I am sure it will have them eventually. I am not convinced you can really hear the difference tho.

As long as you wasted your time finding a cool looking picture to flame someone with to make yourself look big on the internet. Next time I'll ask how to load a Brutal Electro patch or what's the best lube for fucking an alpaca with shall I?

also i'll add in case you don't notice, if you turn the grid off you can draw the automation in freehand rather then it making blocks (took me a while to notice that.

i tend to just record it in though unless i want precision (which is rare)
