Game over Myspace

lol not yet, but hopefully.

Traffic Is Down & Uncertainty Is Up

Site's managers don't seem to know what to do with the fallen star

MySpace is losing so many visitors that it probably won't get all of the $900 million it expected from a key Google deal.

That's a pretty devastating blow for the site, which signed the search deal with Google back in 2006, when it was still one of the Internet's crown jewels.

But now, MySpace has lost too much ground to Facebook and Twitter. And it's looking like Google won't even have to make the minimum payments promised under the deal. Google was supposed to pay at least $900 million based on certain traffic milestones, but those aren't being met.

It's unclear how much of that $900 million is going to be missed. In Wednesday's News Corp. (NWS) earnings call, Rupert Murdochappeared to suggest $300 million, according to MediaMemo. But the company later clarified that it would be closer to $100 million for the year.

At any rate, it's not a good sign for MySpace, which now says it's "not trying to beat Facebook." Or Twitter.

So what is MySpace actually trying to do?

"It's a work in progress," executives said repeatedly during the call, according to MediaMemo.

I'm only on MySpace and i do like the nature of the profiles/html coding etc meaning i have more freedom when it comes to doing whatever i like with my profile, and i stay on it for music networking but i have to admit it is pretty shit now. I hardly go on it anymore and when i do it's for a brief few seconds to check up and for little reason since there is literally NO-ONE on it anymore.

Also im sure "Tom" was the first guy to stop visiting the site after he sold it for X billion dollars. I would be laying in a field of weed plants on my private island by now if I were him.

Haha, Myspaz.. I owe a lot to the site, I used it to coordinate a European tour a few years ago.. Met a lot of people through there, some of which I later met in real life and I call friends now.. But, it's too big.. 1000+ friends, it doesn't make sense.. majority of the comments and messages are blunt spam, majority of people are 'collecting' their friend lists.. It's cool you can set up an artist-account and upload your tracks, but since Soundcloud even that snippet became obsolete, considering Myspaz's terrible terrible terrible compression rate..

I owe a lot to Myspace, can say that about very very very few websites, but yeah.. Myspace has nothing that's unique and makes me wanna invest in it anymore. Not that I find Facebook or Twitter such great substitutes.. Well, thanks for the tours and mates, Myspaz! The internet, a fleeting thing it is, you won't catch me weeping over it one bit.

It's a shame if it does go, all these newer networking sites don't offer as much customisation as myspace and are always restricted in terms of features. Soundcloud is cool but I find it's layout shitty and you can't exactly discover new music via Twatter as it's just 'dear diary' blog page and facefook is just for stalkers.

that's because people actually allow you to snatch the 320 or wav.

no you can use programs like audio hijak pro or something, which isnt useful for myspace as it compresses the tunes so much

Well, you can always upload 64kbps mp3's to soundcloud if you're afraid people'll steal your tracks. I'm not. If people wanted to steal it, I'd be probably be good, rich, famous and won't be browsing this forum from an office job.

I thought those programs were myspace specific. makes sense though.

but yeah I'm not worried about people stealing my shit. I'm genuinely surprised at what downloads I have gotten.

I notice when you upload tracks to scrotumspace it allows you to enable downloading. what heppened there?
