Just cuz I'm feeling kind, I'll give ya an example using Reason.
Fire up the Malstrom, set the oscillator to the Metalcans patch and turn up the index or shift knobs on Mod A. Play a few random notes and you should have some very very robot like noises
Now get to work ya tnuc and send me the results haha!
Wow, I really like this sound! Watch your box I'll send you whatever I come up with.

Got most of these packs. Good stuff. I especially like the ultra short IR's labeled as "Color".
Re: excision-style "transformer" sounds
Ok but how do you make that gut wrenching bass drop sound they use in the new movies?

Re: excision-style "transformer" sounds
My lecturer sued someone for £mill+ over this, and he can't stress enough that any sampling without permission is illegal. It's just that he's never heard of someone being taken to court over a sampled kick drum or a second long transformer sound. Doesn't mean they wouldn't if they found out where it came from though.prefresh wrote:is this a legit a statement?tripaddict wrote:try downloading a 'trial copy' of transformers and search for *.wav in the program dir

3 seconds ... i was told this by someone who's worked in the industry for time
and why is your lecturer still lecturing ... id be in the Bahamas
..... this is irrelevant n e way you should all be original

i may be wrong tho ....
.... nothing wrong with a white label or aliasOn November 20, 2008, electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk convinced the German Federal Supreme Court that even the smallest shreds of sounds are "copyrightable" (e.g. protected), and that sampling a few bars of a drum beat can be an infringement. [11]
Re: excision-style "transformer" sounds
If you're using someone elses sound recording without clearing then it's breaking copyright laws, nuff said. If it's unrecognizable or short then you're just likely to get away with it.tripaddict wrote:so 99.9% of dnb is illegal ? ... i dont think somarshy wrote:My lecturer sued someone for £mill+ over this, and he can't stress enough that any sampling without permission is illegal. Re: excision-style "transformer" sounds
I made this song a couple of months ago trying to get the Tranformers sound (I use FL Studio by the way).
These were made from scratch just using the 3xOSC. As people have said its all about what effects you apply.

Let me know what you think of it.

Re: excision-style "transformer" sounds
yeah sampling anything without permission is illegal. 99.9% of d+b IS illegal. DJ shadow probably gets his more recognizable samples cleared, but doesnt bother with the others. amon tobin is another who works entirely from samples, pretty sure most of those aren't cleared tbh.tripaddict wrote:

with certain things its very hard to prove that it is a sample. other things go under the radar so to speak, most people in the position to sue those who have sampled illegally don't hear the majority of it. also for the most part suing these people would be pointless because it would cost more in lawyers fees than they would ever get back from small artists on independent labels.
but there are a few cases. i believe someone (some hip-hop guys) sued the prodigy for sampling an apache loop from their track. so howlett bought the rights to the original apache and then sued them. funny shit, dunno how true it is, but i hope so.

Re: excision-style "transformer" sounds
About the bass drop sound, if you can find a double bass sample, especially a downward slide note, put it through the free Akaizer standalone timestretcher and fiddle before getting it in to Reason, sounds so so good.
