Ableton - parameter automation disables????

K I'm getting really annoyed by how sometimes i don't know why, but in arrangement mode the little box on the channel where you can select parameters to edit, the little red dot goes gray and i can no longer edit the parameter. What the heck is up with that? I don't want it disabled!

When this is red, click it to return to arrangement view and your automation.

the reason this feature (yes its a feature) exists is so you can change up your existing arrangement w/o overwriting anything

also

it only temporarily disables the track that you altered or launched clips in. This means you can try changes in your arrangement live, and create a structure to lay down clips on as well as many other things.

Oops I should have supplied a screenshot as you misunderstood me



I'm talking about that thing disabling so I can't, for example, change the LFO rate within the arrangement anymore
