HAPPY dubstep / POSITIVE dubstep

Post by stevetwors » Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:56 pm

Greetings all you bass junkies.

Where are the happy dubstep tunes? Where are the dubstep tunes with a positive vibe? I started spinning dubstep about 2 years ago and I'm about ready to give up and move on. The reason? I can't find enough positive tunes. Most of the tunes all follow a similiar vibe, the best I can describe this vibe is epic, deep, abstract, filthy, hard, aggressive energy.

Example, had a bbq this past sunday and me and a friend (who i turned onto dubstep) were tag teaming a set of dubstep. I had like 20 friends over, but my parents were there too. My wife and mom came over to us from the kitchen and said can you play stuff that isnt so dark and weird. To be honest, I was thinking the whole time during the set that its only a matter of time before someone is going to come up and ask for a changeup, so i knew what they wanted before they even made it to the dj booth. I can kind of sense it in the air when music doesnt fit the time or place. It was an absolutely beautiful day, sun was shining, 75 deg fareinheit, the smell of food cooking, people laughing and drinking rum, kids playing in the yard, dog catching a frisbee. So you can imagine that kromestar and benga tunes do not really fit in all of this.

There were a few tunes that DID fit perfect, and they are in my "happy" folder on my laptop. Problem is, I only have a total of like 4 tunes:

6blocc - true love remix:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVBUzPbs8SA

The Widdler vs Collie Budz - come around:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T38jm4BSjSk

The Widdler - Positive Vibes (HD4000 remix):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcP9VSi5n7Y

The Widdler - Sunday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMH-UiJfHcw

"The Widdler - Sunday "was so perfect for the occassion it should probably be an anthem for future bbqs at my house because the lyrics specifically mention a sunday (which was the day the bbq was held) with peeps over (true) having a bbq (true) and its happy (true, everyone was happy that day).

Look guys, I understand you dubbers want to keep it underground. But I get the feeling there is a worldwide conspiracy. I picture all the dubstep producers adhere to this global secret unwritten rule that you must not release x number of happy songs per year because it will cause the genre to get too much exposure. Like if a producer "breaks the code" they will be summoned to face the elder's tribal council and be banished to eternity.

Can you guys please list tunes that are similiar in sound and vibe as the ones I've listed? It would be much appreciated. Thank you kindly,

shame its not for sale though

stuff on 12" i can think of:
dmz - anti war dub
lv & dandelion - cctv
lv & dandelion - globetrotting / takeover
joint forces - as i rise
...can't think of any more in this state...

to be fair though, reggae is blatantly what you were looking for in such a situation.

for real, there are a grip of artists here making really good music... lumping the good in with the bad is ignorance, IMO... Noah D? DJG? Starkey? Babylon System? There are tons more, I won't keep rattling them off, but you can't disrespect these guys just because other Americans are making tunes you don't like.

In response to the original purpose of this thread, check out Blasta- his album on Argon is definitely parent friendly.

Dubstep has amazing diversity, its easy to get bogged down in the "same shit" but if you search for it its there. Even most of the tunes you put up I wouldnt even call "happy".

Heres some stuff i think has good vibes.

Pearson Sound ( ramadam man) - So far away. One of thwe most optimistic tunes I've ever heard not just in dubstep.

Caspa - Moments in Love

Lwiz - Amy Diamond

Scream - If you know

Reso - Onsen

And box cutter has some reall nice shit.

And yeah like the other guy said, stop listening to the American tunes, hahah just joking. Obviosly thats a real generalization, but i find that most of the amaerican stuff is great if u like ur dark hard shit but I'd say theres more variety out there. Please correct me if im wrong.

Silkie - horizon, concrete jungle, gypsy, mattaz...etc

Quest - eden, hardfood

Caspa - moments in love remix

Von d - so many faces

Skream - summer dreams

Yes dubstep is mainly dark vibes as it was built on that, but there has been plenty of positive stuff too...
