Want to start producing dubstep, what should I know?

Hey guys, new to the forum! I'm a 16 year old producer and I've been producing drum and bass for nearly a year now, and I'm looking to get into dubstep. What are the basic things I need to know before starting, i.e. what BPM dubstep is produced at etcetera? If you want to check out my D&B productions, check out: www.myspace.com/dnbswitch

I was played on Radio 1 a few months ago too!

the norm bpm is like 138-140 but dont let people say u cant lower or higher it

Anysongs u make put in the 2 threads at the top of the page or ur just gonna get a topic locked by posting it anywhere else in the prod forums

Check the production bible at the top of this page, there is a wealth of information in there.

Congrats on getting played on Radio 1, obviously you are up to some good stuff.

You don't need to know anything. Make your own style of dubstep (don't start producing wack ass wobblers) and don't listen to anything people tell you on this forum cause it's mostly bullshit from people who don't know what they are talking about.

I wouldn't set out to make 'dubstep.' Although it's difficult to shake off labels and genres make something of your own.
