if you put two words together which no one else has done before its unlikely you'll run into any namesakes. just a thought.

Ha, Rusko star. There's Roska, and a Rosco on here I think too.

Think there's a Loki/Low-qui(sp)/Coki/Moki all in dnb/dubstep too now.

I wouldn't worry if someone has already taken your desires myspace URL, its not that important in the grand scheme of things ;)

But yeah, unique names are hard to come by. This is true with music, domains, companies, etc. Find something unique...or not, and dont get too asshurt when someone steals it cuz it will happen. I wouldn't be suprised if spambots start auto copyrighting artist names to sell at an inflated cost in the future. I wonder if 2 char names will be worth millions =]

I wouldn't worry too much right now, unless your lawyer tells you otherwise of course.

Just make sure you do it bigger, always, and you will have no problems.

yeah the myspace url aspect of it is hardly the issue now...turns out there's actual known musicians named 86

86
86 (the band)
Eighty Six

and a few other random variations. nobody has a clue who I am...and I hardly threw links around until recently...but I've personally known people who were shut down earlier on than you'd think because they shared a name with an obscure band they had never heard of, nor bothered to type in google. like within two months of them putting the name online. not for me though, can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man.

This is not a legal opinion, but I doubt that 86 could be trademarked in the US. Trademarks carry a spectrum of strength; the uniqueness of a name determines the strength of the trademark. The more unique the stronger. 86 is not unique, Noisia is unique.

My first band's name, slobberpussy, pretty unique, but then there was the damn woodpussy at that time.

If you do not choice such a violence path you could just copyright and trademark your name.

This is why I made up my own name that was not either on Google or Discogs.

It is not tho:D
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

It's bullshit shutting an artist down just because he has the same name as you. It shouldn't be about all that shit. If someone came up and was like 'mate, get a new name' I'd be mega pissed. Everyone in my hometown knows be by my dj name. Either way, there's tons of Hayze's, including a shitty indie band, and a fairly famous Hayz already in dubstep, but it doesn't really matter to me. If people like your music, they'll find it.
