Hey Guys,
Been trying to get something similar to the WHARRR WHARRR sound in Trolley Snatcha's "The Future"

It comes in first on the drop at about 27 seconds in, you'll know the one.
I'm using the Thor synth in Reason4 and at the moment im sort of close but cant get anything as bold and harsh as that.
So far I've basically got a kind of Reese style bass (just whacked in 3 Oscs over 3 Octaves) with a low pass on the first filter and then through to a formant filter but no matter how much I play around with the formant the closest thing I can get is like a "Arrrrh".
It seems like a simple sound so hopefully some of you guys know how to get it.
Any ideas or tips will be appreciated

the sound im looking for is at roughly 1m into Swagga by Excision, its that high pitched screeching sound.. as i understand its a number of oscs working at the same time i was just wondering how you got the high pitched one at the top?

assign lfos (envelopes work too (wack up decay) to pitch and adjust the sync rate to 8/1 or whatever u are looking for in length. i like to also throw an lfo to filter cutoff and set it to half of whatever length i have set the lfo (envelope) for pitch. ie - 4/1 in this example. automating effects into the riser also works well to add depth n quirkiness.

Been working for the sound a few guys are doing at the moment, the more 'vocal' sounding synth (Normally ya's or ow's).
Semi-Trolley Snatcha style, Dayn has used it a few times too, most notably 'Extraterrestrial'
Any hints/tips? If it's been discussed elsewhere in this thread let me know and i'll have a more detailed look.

i have been trying to figure out this sound for a short minute now too. i have nailed it finally. i wont go into the process of what waveform to use bc really anything harmonically rich will work. you want to utilize this chain essentially:marshy wrote:Bump.

waveform > slight loshelf boost > bitcrush > vowel filter
Its of course, not that simple... but this is what will get you a great sound to start off with. at this point, i typically split the frequencies and apply separate distortion (gently) and hipass around 125hz. then layer in a sub tone beneath. if u do not have a vowel filter, fret not:

The key lies in the automation of the formant filter and the amount of bitcrush you are using, combined with the vowel filter you are emulating.

Thanks, i'll check that out!
I've been having a lot of fun with a plugin called 'Decimate' by Soundhack. It's a bit depth and sample rate reducer, but with the right settings you can get a slight 'oww' from your synth. Sounds different to others too.
Will post a quick audio capture if you're interested in what it sounds like.

could anyone give me a hand with getting this high wobble bass sound at the start of Lucifer by Coki? Im using Reason 4 (which i think is what Coki uses) so any help reproducing it on Subtractor, Malstrom or Thor synths would me muuuch appreciated.

It comes in about about 30 seconds

The sound can be achieved easily with the Subtractor and a scream 4 distortion device. On the Subtractor, turn on osc 2 and turn up the FM knob. Use whatever waveforms you like.
On the scream 4 device, turn off the distortion section and switch on the body section. Automate the resonance and scale knobs using whichever algorithm takes your fancy...
Alternatively, use an FM oscillator in Thor and route it through a formant filter.
The wobble can be created by assigning an LFO to any parameter that alters the sound in anyway. Examples include the FM amount knob on the Subtractor, the resonance and scale knobs on the scream 4 device and the filter cut-off on Thors formant filters.

I usually a synth with 2 oscillators and distortion then tweak, but i couldn't get close enough to this sound so i wondered if anyone might know how to get it just right. With a bit more time tweaking the sounds im sure I will be able to get the sound im after.
One other question - what is a good way to make a sub to compliment that high distorted wobble?
in the example song I gave there seems to be more movement in the sub than just a sine wave... What is the most effective way to make a wobble sub? LFO to volume?

I forgot to mention that you could also route the signal from the scream 4 device into filter 3 of Thor so you can use both the Screams body section and formant filters on the same sound! (You'll need to refer to the Reason manual to learn how to set up external routing with the Thor cuz I don't remember off the top of my head)
Another possibility would be to use the vocoder and to automate the shift control.
Modulating a sub is exactly the same as modulating a sound that is higher up in the frequency range. Automatable synth parameters may include (but are not limited too), volume, filter cut-off, filter resonance, waveform width (PWM on sqaure and pulse waves), sync amount, FM amount, phase position, and any parameter on any on board effects!
Another possibility would be to use the vocoder and to automate the shift control.
If you're bored of sine based subs, use a waveshape with more harmonics and then low pass filter most of the harmonics away. You'll still be left with a fairly meaty sub, except it will have a few harmonics poking through changing the timbre of the bass. I'm having so much trouble trying to create a nice deep "hollow" bass like the recent kryptic minds/ben verse/icicle tracks. I'm using reason but maybe I should switch to another synth than thor? Example is at 0:55 of http://soundcloud.com/kryptic-minds/lif ... ic-uk-clip . Any help will be appreciated, I can't get enough of these sounds.

The choir pad is a choir preset from whatever synth was used.
The bass is just a low pass filtered reese. You can make a reese by detuning one saw wave slighlty from another saw wave.
Pass the sound through a low pass filter and modulate the filter cut-off point with an ADSR.
Set a medium fast attack and a medium fast decay on the ADSR module. Set a fairly light modulation depth so the ADSR doesn't open up the filter cut-off to much.
Set the filter cut-off point very low and add lot's of resonance. Be warned that adding lots of resonance could damage your speakers or your hearing. You may wish to add a compressor/limiter after the filter to maintain safe audio levels.

I've been trying to make a realistic flute style sound for a while but it always ends up sounding too 'synthy'. I got close by modifying the 'pipe' preset in predator...but not quite
