Do I Need New Program??

Post by junior spesh » Tue Nov 24, 2009 3:51 pm

In a nutshell, i use fl 7 xxl, i hav 1 synth! (yes i no, pathetic) but i gettin sum durty sounds from it, every tune sounds different...

but i cnt help but think i need 2 upgrade to the new fl studio or incorporate a whole new program into my music production. (However, my budget is minscule)

Based on what you hear of my tunes, (links in signiture) http://www.myspace.com/gullyfloss is there anything that a new program cud offer me that i REALLY need now... because although i dnt wanna be missin out i do also value my money especially as i do not hav a job...
Is it worth investin in immediatley or shud i wait and keep practising on fruity...
I personally think my tunes sound fine the way they are, but second opinions do ALOT, every1 thinks their tune is kriss!

More gear is not going to improve the quality of your beats.

I have never used any version of Fruity (I am a Mac guy) but, plenty of amazing records have been made with it, so in short - NO, you don't need anything new.

You really only need one synth w/ 2-3 oscillators and decent routing options and you can make almost anything.

That said, why not download some free VSTs: Tal-Bassline, Tal-Uno, LinPlug FreeAlpha are all powerful, free synths.

You should practice spelling! Image

:)

Anyway, upgrading is not going to help you in any massive way. Try to learn what you got inside out, this will help you decide on a next step.

Good point.

When you know what the limitations of your existing setup is, you'll have a good idea of what else you'd like to incorporate into your setup.

Personally, I'm finding Vember Audio Surge to be all I need as far as synths go. :)

A Moog Little Phatty would go along way. Analog, and LFO can sync to midi, best of both worlds.

But that might be quite out of your price range. Try the Korg Legacy Collection analog edition, probably some of the best sounding vst's i have heard to date.

I have to respectfully disagree.

The answer to his problem isn't spending $2-3,000 on a hardware synth or even $150 on a VST (if he has the money to burn, by all means). He said he has no budget, I think he (or anyone in his shoes) would be best served with trying some great freeware and really learning the ins and outs of their DAW and sound design (the most important part).

No you don't, but I suggest you upgrade to FL8 (or FL9 if you have the processing power)

i started out using cubase sx 3 and learnt that in and out, using shitloads of vst's and effects and i was getting nowhere
i demoed ableton live 8 and was a bit disorientated as its completely different but now i've gone to using just one vst and using waveform samples and my production has gone way up from what it used to be

in short: sometimes a change is good
but if you're happy with flstudio then try using a different method of making a noise... it worked for me man
New Tune! Raze - The Sickness! (my first ever completed dubstep tune ;))
320 or WAV for any takers...

It's not the software you use but how you use it mate. If i were you i'd get hold of Tal elek7o ,and zebra cm. Those 2 synths sound awesome and are pretty easy to use.( plus they are both FREEEEEEE) Once you've mastered them then it might be time to start looking for a new synth, but in all honesty i wouldn't worry about what sytnhs etc your using, just spend time getting decent sounds out of what you've got.
We used fl7 for our first releases, and i know of numerous people still using it and getting sick results.
Do alot of reading about EQ and compression, and master a limited number of synths and you'll start to see real progress, rather than just getting a new toy and scrolling lost through the pre sets ;)
