Re: is it just me, or is this guy talking out of his ass
how can you talk about house this year without mentioning funky?

edited the title, didn't want to come off as an asshole myself
Re: is it just me, or is this guy talking out of his ass
I think he offers a pretty thorough explication of this year's house developments. There is always more to be said with such an expansive genre but he covers most of the key emerging figure like MCDE and personal favourite Moodymann etc. I prefer the techno part though tbh - Ostgut Ton and Sandwell District in full effect, deservedly so.
Out of interest, what do you disagree with?
If Blackdown is still writing for pitchfork, I'm sure he would give funky a full airing. Or if there is a 'This year in UK Bass Music', which there should be.

because funky isn't house in a traditional sense. The title of that blog is this year in techno, and the dialectic of house/techno development doesn't involve UKF. As Simon Reynold's would say, it's not in the same 'Continuum'. Besides, the developments he is discussing are much more universally acknowledged than funky which is more or less UK/Europe-centric.Julio wrote:how can you talk about house this year without mentioning funky?

duck out pitchfork!
Re: what do you think of this article
Not to come to Pitchfork's defense, but they covered the year in UKF in their dubstep / grime column:
