We've still got the odd Fopp or two selling music, films and related books. As well as pretty much all of our more traditional bookshop chains in addition to the little independent ones.
Also, how does Amazon figure into that. I know it's not a chain but it probably sells as much as a chain.

well from the article they're saying that "online competition" have done them in...ie amazon, etc.
its good for the small bookstores though, as they will surge, but its tough for music and dvd's.

Yeah I find it quite odd everytime I visit the states that there are practically no other bookstores around apart from Barnes & Nobles and Borders. Apart from that one mahoosive secondhand bookstore in NY.
I'm sure something will come along in a few years to fill up the music and dvd hole. Just have to get past the current situation.

When they closed down the one on Oxford St the whole place just looked like a jumble sale, couldn't find anything.
