does anyone know what this is?
i think it's an audio playback device, or an interface between software & soundcard?
basically Sound Forge 8.0 won't playback or record files because it says that 'microsoft sound mapper' doesn't exist. I can't locate it on my PC, it's unavailable to download, and there's hardly any helpful info on the net.
Any help much loved.

You're right on the second one. It's an interface between the software and the soundcard, and comes standard w/ DirectX. My suggestion would be to try reinstalling DirectX.

I had the same problem. Thanks, Im going to try to resolve this issue now.
My Sound Forge Audio Studio 7.0 was working fine, but the full Sound Forge was having that problem.
Big ups!
