Do you ever imagine a dubstep tune would be good for a movie

Post by WatchYourStep » Sun Nov 29, 2009 7:21 pm

Sometimes I'm listening to a song and I'll think "this would make a good song for a cutscene in a movie". For example, a cutscene where high school kids all jump into a car, crank some tunes and drive off, or to show badassery, like where four gangsters step out of a cadillac that pulls up to a loading dock, or even during a longer scene like an epic fight between a good guy and a bad guy, like the T2 and T-1000. I couldn't tell you which tunes I've thought this for but it's definitely crossed my mind more than once before.

No not really. It'd just be cheesy seeing gangsters etc walking around with dubstep playing.

It worked in Children of men though. If it wasn't used in action scenes etc it would work.

Anti-War Dub in Children of Men was stupidly short though. You hear it for like 5 seconds ha.

Kode9 & Spaceape in the background at that bar worked good.

lol dunno about that high school kids thing, but I think it's more suited to scifi if anything. Besides sounding "futuristic" as it is the sound is really unfamiliar to most people so unless it was a specific type of movie it would sound pretty alien I think. Then again there's all different kinds of dubstep, i'm sure there's a place to be found for it all. A large factor is also probably sales, they want to make soundtracks with popular songs.

when i listen to Stutter - Pinch & Distance i can always imagine it going nicely to some tribal guy running through the jungle, or the Mako EP - Ital Tek, if that was in a sci-fi film!!! but i think most of all Blob - Elemental & 3D would kill it for the soundtrack to a chase scene in a sci-fi film or a manga/anime. . .

what something like babylon? could work, but i know if it was made it'd be cheesy like fucking dubplate drama or some shit, trying "to deal with the alienation of youth and racial minorities".

i think many burial songs would work well in films. not action scenes, obviously, probably more the end credits. i've always thought it since i first started listening to it.

a horror comedy movie!

people are staying at a hotel were theres a murderer, they go to the show come back to the hotel and see a guy playing golf in the hall (the murderer) so the dubstep people(they have knives on them) say can i play (they knew this guy was a muderer, he was on tv) hes says in a little bit. the golf ball rolls on to the stairs where there were a bunch of other balls but she was to drunk to notice and she walked up the stairs steps on them and falls down the sairs, she was hurt. the murderer leaves and keeps the putter there, she thought they were playing golf and they ended up having sex.

I thought 'Square Off' by Coki would be good for something like Lord of the Rings or Warhammer when there's an army of Orcs trundling along.
