No more 1210's

Post by trike12 » Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:37 am

Dont know if this have been up on this forum before.
so incredibly sad.

Panasonic announces Technics production to cease in February 2010

The Technics SL-1200 and Technics SL-1210 turntables have shaped the world we know today. Featured in the London Museum of Science and Technology they are regarded as a major stepping stone in how music is played and presented.

We have just heard the sad new from Panasonic (the manufacturer of Technics) that production of the world famous Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 DJ turntables will stop at the end of February 2010. This marks the end of an era - Technics have been the industry standard for over 35 years with this turntable and the SL-1200 is synonymous with the DJ culture. It has been released and re-released over 9 times with different models and numerous other manufacturers have tried to compete with this deck, but above all, the Technics SL-1200 & Technics SL-1210 are the undisputed number one deck in the world.

Why do that?
personally dont think they earn enough and since they really dont care about culture, they shut it down...
i just love big corporations... :u:

Who knows when they'll stop making spare parts? when will this epic historic deck die out?

:i:
Why people have this 'one or the other' attitude to music media is beyond me - why cant we have the best of both worlds?

Panasonic has issued a clarification to its statement on the future of its Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 turntables. There has been speculation about the industry standard decks since the announcement from antipodean retailers that they would be discontinued.

However, the company has now confirmed the invaldity of the rumour, telling Pocket-lint: "As a major global business, Panasonic keeps all of its operations under constant review. However, there are no current plans to discontinue the Technics brand and the production of Technics turntables".

So I shouldn't have just bought 8 pairs of decks off ebay?

Good...It's a sad day when they go under. Even though there's a million different ways to lay down a set, the world just wouldn't be the same without them. :y:
