Music tech (etc.) course in Uni

Appleblim, Gatekeeper, Wedge and Headhunter all did the creative music tech course at, I think this is right, Bath Spa Uni.

+ al tourettes to this list I believe. Whats the course that brackles and shortstuff and a few others met at, was it nottingham or leeds?

brackles and shortstuff were in notts but they weren't doing a music course they just started producing during uni.

i tried to do something like this in NYC and backed out because of the amount of music theory classes involved. be careful with that, it'll make you hate music if you arent the type to sing in class and learn about music like its math.

i looked on both nott trent and nott uni website and no music tech/sound courses? am i being blind?

ive heard leeds is meant to be decent though, but leeds met is like 101 in the uni tables (yet ur tellin me best equipped studios? lol)

I just graduated from Birmingham City University with a degree in Music Industries, but I wouldn't really recommend that course, bit too much theory went on in those three years, although I did write a wicked paper on The Streets, & my dissertation was about record collecting!

Im also very interested in taking a course im looking at creative music technolagy at anglia ruskin university can anyone recomed it? also UWE looks very good also, im trying to decide between those could anyone offer any advice?

Yeah it's supposed to be lovely studios but apparently the teachers don't know how to use it and keep having to ring up the techies to explain stuff.

Bare in mind this comes from my teacher at Leeds College of Music so it may just be jealousy

I got Leeds Met and it just so happens to be amazing! defiantly is the place to be. Amazing studios that the staff have a full understanding on how the equipment works having long years of experience. One lecturer is a doctor and has worked for nasa and is still one of the 8 people in the world who get called in to listen to noises from space.... lol.

plus its £2000 tuition fee which is the cheapest.

And last but not least there are over 30000 students in Leeds and the night life is fucking top probably 3 or 4 different dubstep nights in a week, plus on saturday night they held a Dubstep, Dub and DnB night in the SU i would say its good with the times. The Line up was: Trolly Snatcher, Gentlemen's Dub Club, Zion Train, Coki (but never turned up ), Bar 9, Dub Terror.

I am currently at The University of Westminster. The studios are the best thing about it. Full Pro tools HD, Logic 9 good analogue equipment for mixing down. Every single plugin know to man...waves, oxford, abbey road, UAD plus much more. Plus they just bought these 30,000 pound analogue to digi converters fuk nose why but hey.

The course is called commercial music...more about being a success in the music industry, so for dubstep heads probably not a good idea. If you just want a place for using studios its very cool but they've taught me fuck all in the first year!!!

Yeah it's real nice. No major studio work for the first year though, bit of a bummer. I'd have called the Edit Suites 'Studio's' before i came here though!

My interview went horribly. My portfolio cd wouldnt play on the head of departments (Nick Sargent youl prob meet him if you come for an interview) mac because I just drag and dropped the files onto a cd from windows, it knocked my confidence completely and I just ended up mumbling through the whole thing. The questions they he asked where so obscure like "What do you feel it is exactly you contribute to your music", I made the fucking music myself what the hell I am supposed to say to that. Luckily I managed to get something in about doing some work in PureData though which I think impressed him. Pretty much just make sure your portfolio is good enough to compensate for a bad interview, it's how I managed to get in I reckon.

Skream and I both studied music tech at Carshalton College, was a wicked course although I know the tutors have since changed so can't say what it would be like now

If you're considering notts I don't think trent or notts uni do music tech courses (could be wrong) you want to check out confetti though it's a college but you can study an fdsc in music tech there through de montfort.

I'm just finishing up on my second year there, the main studio (electric mayhem) has got a neve vr60 with some form of hd setup and some fairly nice mics, bbc coles, c12 to name a few.
