Ringing on Bass

Post by drakewho » Fri Dec 04, 2009 6:37 am

Hey,

I'm new to production and every time I produce a little track and uploaded it to soundcloud or myspace it has a slight ringing or something on the bass. I don't know why this happens because when I listen to the original file on my computer the ringing or whatever it is is not there but on soundcloud or myspace it is and I would really like to get rid of it so let me know if you have any ideas on why this is happening or how to fix it.

Here is an example of the ringing.

Without an a/b comparison i cant hear any ringing. Although i did notice it on one of my tracks. It doesnt seem to like sub bass for some reason :/

I think that it's down to the compression the sites use.
Soundcloud streams at 128 and Myspace a bit less. So, if you up load a 320 they have to compress the track to save bandwidth and this will affect the sound on playback from their players.

if you're gonna upload it to myspace and soundcloud should you then bounce your track at 128 or lower to avoid stuff like this?

I'm not sure. As I said, this difference in sound is probably down to what every they do to your track during their compression of it. If you upload a 128 they might still be doing something to it. Change of format?

i think it could be avoided by putting a low pass filter on the sub??

any free file hosting site is gonna compress your tune.
make sure it''s dithered to 16bit before upping and you should be good

Try bouncing down into ogg instead, thats what I did when I started to notice a browning out on myspace... it seems like there compressors handle ogg files with a bit more respect or somethin, idk, then again, it might just me being picky.

Soundcloud and Youtube do a similar thing to my tunes! Except they make my sub bass sound similar to a pitched down rustling carrier bag.... It's really effing annoying.
I bounce my tracks from logic as dithered 16 bit wavs and 320 kbps MP3's... They sound fine before they're uploaded... How are others managing to get good quality out of the social network sites when some of us are suffering?! Lol.

I dont upload my 320s to anything aside from rapidshare/mediafire/ect...

I really think it might be about saving server-side from compressing... myspace streams at lil less then 128, so try bouncing a copy down to that...

Or, go ogg, theres less loss then mp3, and you can save high kbs.
