Yeah, I'd done some searching ages back and turned up nothing.... lucky for me I've already got a hard copy of Silkie's warez tho so no tearz. I sort of dig how they are doing vinyl only though, much like all this limited cassette tape only biznizz in experimental circles as of late... its got charmcollige wrote:City Limits WAVs are on Bleep but that's it to my knowledge.the tits wrote:Love to know if/where Deep Medi stuff is available in lossless... you cant achieve as much with decks as you can with ableton
Ableton offers waayyy more possibilities. Thing is, if I'm listening to someone mixing live with Ableton, I'm expecting him to use these possibilities.

Don't want to be rude but I disagree with pretty much everything you said...2manynoobs wrote: lol, now don't get all upset about this mate.
It's like vulva said: dubstep is a vynil culture, it's meant to be played on vynil. If you want to hear ppl press buttons, making live music with analog gear (like vynil is analog) then you go to see them, i would too. But i would personally hate someone who's making live dubstep. It would be so cheap. You just can't construct something like what the true dubstepproducer make, that sounds decent to play live. You can't play dubstep in another way then spinning the tunes. You simply can't reconstruct a sick compition like the tune itself for live. So -> vynil is the way to go.
What is meant to play live is experimental electronic music, like -i can't think of a better example than Sphongle, or Younger Brother. Those guys are fucking genious. I don't say it's impossible to do something like that with dubstep, but it would take more than a fucking digital computer (yah, coz computers is digitl) to do it.
Rumour is that Mount Kimbie are constructing something, even with guitarCan't wait to hear that
There's a difference between live dubstep artists, and "DJing" tracks with ableton but adding tons of effects and manipulating different tracks at the same time. Both can be awesome if done right. EOTO does some sick live dubstep (computer+drum+midi keyboards), Heyoka mixes his own stuff live in ableton, lots of other DJs mixes tracks by other artists in ableton and adds lotsa glitches and other stuff.
Who decided that dubstep is a vinyl culture? Why should it stay like that? The original idea of dubstep was to "look forward", not "stay in your roots and stay blind to technology".
You can experiment like dubstep too you know. What you say sounds like "it's too hard to do something nice in ableton, therefore, nobody should try". Sphongle and Younger Brother are very cool too, but I don't see how the term eperimental can apply to them...Autechre is experimental...
Your idea of digital < analog reminds me of people saying electronic music sucks cause it's not done with real instruments...
If you can produce a track with ablton, you can also cut one into parts and manipulate it live with great effect and creativity.

I do see your point, of course I do. Its kinda like my love for Lil Wayne, I don't listen to him to become enlightened or find a deeper meaning. Its just plain fun. Not everything has to be this epic revolution... but..
Ive been going to raves/parties/clubs/whatever since I was 15. Im 26 now. Im not sure how old you are, but performers had to meet a standard... and that standard seems to be deteriorating... for fucks sake.. at least beatmatching..... jesus lord.

Why do you care, what is a real dj? Honestly unless you scratch whats so difficult, i guess vinyl would be harder but dude i dont get to go to raves but id imagine most people dont use vinyl much so to me its all the same once you step away from vinyl...
Re: IM SO SICK OF FAKE ASS DIGITAL DJS!!!!
and yo as far as producers not djing, thats the opposite of me and probably most, if i hear some datsik from dj joe blow its meaningless but if i got to hear datsik himself live my ears would melt..
Re: IM SO SICK OF FAKE ASS DIGITAL DJS!!!!
i cant believe that was written... First, mixing creates an incredible diverse method of DJing, which can be extremely difficult... scratching can be difficult but honestly once you get the hang of it (I hampster scratch) its like riding a bike... you don't forget. Vinyl IS harder because ableton and serato can compensate for the slight delays when touching a piece of vinyl to beatmatch it.Skepsis wrote:Why do you care, what is a real dj? Of course people use vinyl at raves! You are on a forum of a genre of music that cherishes and encourages the usage of it!
and beatmatching or being a good dj doesn't have to do with just vinyl.. if you are using cdjs, serato, ableton, tracktor, whatever, fucking do it right.

I like sets on both digi and physical platforms, but I have to say, I prefer the aesthetics of vinyl. Aside form a house party though, anyone playing out on these better have really fresh clothes and lots of blinding lights and perhaps some exposed breasts to distract from the cockblocking powers their gear...

since when dj-ing HAS to be difficult? it's not circus, holding a dozen plates spinning on long sticks, that would be hard
the ONLY purpose of dj-ing is to entertain people. whoever achieves that best is the winner in the eyes of the only ones that count: the audience

i'd even say dj-ing has to be as easy as possible so all your focus can be on the stuff that matter: creativity and spontaneity and communication with the audience

A couple minutes? To download somebody’s whole collection. Now the question is, is it worth the convenience? Maybe. But are you missing out on all of the knowledge that goes into looking for those specific records? Now everybody can hide behind these phoney masks. Do whatever they want. You never know what you’re getting.[...]
But more importantly, what I want to focus on is that you can’t replace a record collection with a file collection. There’s no way to replace it, and it’s up to every one of you if you’re interested in playing music out, to decide if you’re going to deal with both types of formats. Realise, they’re two different types of camps, you’re really cutting yourself off from individuals who respect the idea of collection. It’s a family and they will be able to tell if you don’t have those records. And they’re not going to look for you for those records. They’re not going to be interested in replacing an important piece that you might have lost or damaged. If they knew that you went the cheap way and just downloaded it anyway, that’s the other part of it.

mpc32 + ableton live can be as easy or as hard as you want it to!
trust me
set your quantization to 1/16 or to none at all and try launching clips ON TIME. In my opinion A-Bing this way (without monitoring) is WAY harder than spinning. I've done both and used to be a wax head, now I would never go back to wax. My wax stays on my shelf and doesn't get ganked by other djs or fucked up at shows.
Its just me and my mpc32.... and maybe a kaossalator or and or a mini kp. Anything that fits into my laptop bag mate cheers.
I agree tho with fake digital djs. There are TONS of them out there.... Just randomly launching ONE clip at a time every oh 2 or 3 minutes. Pisses me off to no extent. How do these type of people get shows? Or once they get them, how do they keep their gigs?
I saw ESKMO last night and he was running Live and he absolutely murdered it. I saw Glitch Mob last week and all three of them looked like they were just pressing buttons on their 2000$ lemurs and nothing was happening. Show productions are all different you never know what you're gonna get.
