Re-Creating Burial's "Fostercare"

Post by futurist » Fri Dec 11, 2009 2:23 am

Okay So am I am trying to re-create this song as much as I possibly can.

Vocal part may be quite hard but the instrumentals I want to attempt.

Here is my attempt at the bass part (wav):
DivShare File - Burial Fostercare Bass.wav
Here is the Midi:
DivShare File - Burial Fostercare Bass.mid

Now i know this bass doesn't sound exactly like the one in the song but thats okay.

If anyone can help me figure out the other sounds in the song that would be awesome and if anyone wants to collab on this with me that would be cool too!

Burial is such an amazing Producer, Composer and even scientist.... Everything is just perfect, the harmonics, the space and use of reverb and delay... It's just all so correct... He must underestimate his abilities so much, it just all fits so well, how the fuck basically... I bet there aren't any other producers in the world who can do what he does to these vocals... it's not just the pitching, it's the way he uses reverb and delay to create those amazing overtones and harmonics...
If he does all of that intentionally, which I think he does, he really is like some sort of professor... Underrated, underestimated, under everything...

Atleast the beat is simple for once... Not sure the point of recreating the entire song? Surely you only really are interested in 1 element?

You will struggle hugely to get the vocals working like that and the feeling of space, that;s why he is so rare...

You tend to learn a hell of a lot in the process...

Now i know this bass doesn't sound exactly like the one in the song but thats okay.
layer a low passed saw wave in and turn it down till its just adding character
make sure the low pass makes it sound "sine"-y and you might get a bit closer 8)

If its a burial tune it never will?

THats something else everyone forgets... what he does (according too people Ive talked to on here) is quanitizeless, and essentially electronic sample bassed tape editing... So youll never get his timing right... cause in a sense... he didnt? well he did, but, not in the same sense as most electronica artists would say right...

And who put that copyright claim into youtube?

Might be your answer on some of that sampling..

Sooo underground that dude, Burial... he keeps to himself, bt of a hermit from what I see, and I dont think anyone can actually tell me who he is...
