I dont entrely object to subgenres, but, they have to come with a serious revelation or strict rule in the music... Jungle basically needs an amen and a more analogue nature, at least where I come from... the vibe being less important then those drums... but... point is... shouldnt a subgenre come to define a change in the structure in some way?
And if what this is really aobut s the age old question about distorted vs. non, call it something better then brostep for gods sake... A> I know some down female heads who get thier hands up to harder shit with all the guys B> Brostep is a gehy word...
I always pretty much drew the line between dubstep and ruffnek diskotek... it seemed a pretty convenient way to seperate the distortion out, and gave homage to the old nights accross the pond whcih really helped start, and embody what i think should be, the scene. But, according to the legend as I got it, Ruffnek Diskotech is the first place they really shifted into that heavier, grittier, distorted, glitchy end... And, as catchy and legendary as the name is, it fit in mind as the subgenre, which Im now gathering people are calling brostep...
So, essentially, with as unique, and important as distorted shit is, cant we all agree on something better then brostep, becasue, as mentioned above, that might as well say fagstep or soemthing of the like... it pays no respect.
Soemone take the flaming for starting a poll or something, lets vote on the official first subgenres...
Then again, that might be a post better saved for brostepforum.com
