Hackney.

Yo,

I live in the relatively cushy East End (Aldgate) at the moment, I'm looking at some flats in Hackney/London FIelds areas next week.

Does anyone here know the area at all? Is there anything interesting going? Is it safe?

Namely Dalston Lane, near Hackney Downs station and Mare Street, near London Fields Station.

Any input would be very much appreciated .

Stoke Newington looks lovely but a bit of a mission for work, takes an hour to Liverpool Street, whereas Hackney is 8 minutes on the train.

? an hour ? stoke newington is on the same train line as hackney, takes about 12min to get to liverpool street. right on trotsky, i would go stokey over the rest of hackney any day, it's much nicer (cool shops/bars/nice parks) still cheapish and is more convenient for going out - tons of buses going from liverpool street/shoreditch/old st straight up kingsland road...i may be abit biased though, i LOVE stokey

dalston-good location getting trendy now but considerably rougher, different vibe to stoke newington. better for transport though as closer to the action and the east london line will be opening soon. gets nicer on the outskirts eg in De Beauvoir town
london fields/broadway market -really nice (massive park) but more expensive, transport not great after the overground is closed at night
bethnal green - walking distance to liverpool st,brick lane and has a tube, bit grimy though and more exp because of the tube
i would say it's a good idea to visit the areas you're interested in both in day time and night as sometimes there is quite a difference, would be good for both you and yr bird to go at night as her idea of safe might be abit different to yours

i LOVE stokey

You can get a coffee mug with that on it from one of the shops near the bottom of Church Street.

I got my nephew a babygrow with People's Republic Of Stokie and a red start on it from the shop, coz I'm cool like that.



Look at houses on Church Street rnbc coz they're cheap and really nice town houses, usually quite big with huge rooms.

Also there's a complex of warehouses that you can find and get hench rooms for very little.

Dude you can walk to liverpool st from stokie station in about half an hour if you put a good stomp on. I used to walk it everyday to say £!

i lived basically next to hackney downs (opposite the pembury) for two years or so, it's fine - i felt safe there and it was really convenient for everything. stokey is also good, if you have the cash and prefer slightly smug middle class vibes then stokey is the one for you.

i want to move back there, finsbury park just isn't the same

I'd move to Stokey if I never wanted to get into central London late at night again. They really need a proper fucking Tube station. I HATE BUSES.

From where I live it's a short waltz down to Manor House or jump pon the 393 to Highbury and Jizzlington.
