Like'n those hats on intro, niiiice.
i'm like'n the bass work aswell but I'd love to hear this tune with the bass punchin threw alot more, crank that shit up!!
Only one thing i didnt really like, and this is just my opinion with something i found in a track i recently made - the crash cymbal i feel is a bit loud. Someone once said to me less is more, and i feel if you toned the crash cymbal down a bit it would still add to the song but without being right in your face :-). I like to put an automation on the volume so the initial crash isnt so loud but you still get the full tail end of the sound. let me know if that works for this tune or not :-D
Deffo wanna hear it again with more bass (i love bass ha ha) so if you end up crankin it, re-post or pm me on sound cloud!!

all in all very nice work my friend :W:

Cheers for the feedback man, I'll check it out in the morning and fix the crash, as i cant crank the monitors up at the moment :P, ill take a look how far I can push the reece also, I had problems with previous versions with the phase pumping a couple DB higher than the body and im no master of compression, but ill see what I can do,

hey guys...

so, i have a request list for reviews about a mile long, and i normally try to respond to all the general ones here, as well..

i'm working on them as you read this, i promise if you PM'ed me with a request i will get to it, its just gonna be a minute or two, due to the sheer number of them.

but while you're waiting on a review you might as well head over to my myspace (http://www.myspace.com/BaronRogue) and have a listen to the remix that i just posted of Phoenix's "1901"

DISCLAIMER: its electro, not dubstep, but i want your opinion. besides, if i wanted to get flamed i'd post this in the Dubs section, right?

much love :w:

MARSHY - "Bow Folk" (http://www.myspace.com/marshydub)

pluses:
+exceptional intro ambience, sets the mood perfectly, just the right amount of darkness and disorder, kinda gives you that "where the hell am i?" feeling
+"we're the ones with the crossbows" --epic break sample mate
+alien "yeehh" synths are so win, haven't heard those in quite some time
+breaks and builds just like it should, super pro style
+your songs definitely have their own classic marshy sound to them, i love being able to tell a producer from just listening to a track
+nice automation style, definitely kept me on my toes
+filler synths are perfectly layered

advice:
-some of the synths are way lower in the mix then the main alien synth.. gives dynamics but would definitely get lost under the sub bass at a club
-was really hoping the second breakdown would be different from the first, or at least the second half of the second
-needs a tad stronger bass under the main synths to make them sound a little less dry, unless that's what you're going for
-first breakdown seems to be a repeat of the intro.. might want to shorten unless you want some standing to take place during the break
-super abrupt ending.. might be myspace/conversions fault

overall:
=what else is there to say about marshy? definitely one of the most unique producers out there... kinda like if Excision and an alien had a lovechild... always a pleasure to review

much love :w:

Or anything on my soundcloud, didn't even realise this thread was here till tonight <_<
Danky - "Third Leg"

pluses:
+cello!! super duper man, definitely my favorite instrument
+sluggy basslines, super lurker sounding, almost like eating a swamp
+clever high hat work, almost random but still in sync
+unique dub bass, brings back the old school grime days
+changing up the drums for variety
+bass follows cello pattern, great at the beginning

advice:
-bell synths are super harsh, gets a little grating towards the end, maybe mix a little lower or EQ
-i assume you wanted the drop at 0:55? needs to be a little more distinct, the whole track almost sounds like an intro
-the synth morphs way late in the song, might want to have a different synth or note pattern come in
-song drags a bit, would have to be mixed into other songs well to have the desired effect
-needs bit more variation to be interesting, or length of song brought down

overall:
=pretty standard for a grime track, has a nice bob to it but definitely drags a bit. if you put in a half time or double time section, it would definitely spice it up.

DJaccel - "Business (Original Mix)"

pluses:
+needs more cowbell! haha just kidding, it has the right amount of cowbell (guessing thats what it is).. anyway, definitely the backbone of the song, and surprisingly effective! nice placement, rhythmically
+super, super, SUPER build and flow, snare comes in at just the right point, bongos were a nice touch, almost a ragga feel to the song at that point...
+the flow makes the drops stand out so well
+ooooo, sum supa heavy bass, tasty tasty
+rasta sample is golden, borderline scary

advice:
-the additions and build are the source of variation within this song, i'd love to see some faster wubz thrown in here and there for spice
-bongos kinda come and go randomly, unless i missed the pattern there
-maybe one more layer in the second drop, just to surprise the groovers at the club?
-a quick break (silence and/or rasta sample reprise) in the middle of the second drop riff would be so epic with such a heavy bass

overall:
=super pro grime here! kinda like licking an ashtray and finding out someone put an old band-aid in there... had me bobbing and weaving all over my flat, would love to spin around the floor of the club to this one. thought the cowbell would get annoying but i was wrong! haunting!

much love :w:

Johnny Quest wrote: Mate first off thank you for take'n the time to listen and post some decent feedback :-D much appreciated. was wondering when someone was gunna question what the sounds in my breakers were ha ha, the first one is actually a cricket running across the floor, and the second one is a slug, time stretched to give it that slower eery sound. what i've highlighted in bold in your comment, i've take'n into consideration and i'm gunna have a play around and see what i come up with and if i like it. Pretty much just didnt want ppl to get sick of the main riff too quickly so opted for a bit of an elongated breakdown with heavy bass before the half way point. shall let ya know of the progress!!

Thanks again

JQuest
any time, my friend, i enjoyed your track very much, post any others you want done on here... now that i know what your breaks are, dont change them! they're super unique and will probably get the fans coming up to you after a show asking similar questions haha

new track here...
Thierry Le DJ - "Lost in the Dark"

pluses:
+nice heavy bass with super sweet twitchy oscillations, very nice
+ambience hits the spot, gives bells a new place in dubstep
+had me bobbing my head like i'd broken my neck
+nice builds and breaks
+crisp, well done, production wise
+white noise snare done like a pro

advice:
-first of all man, the harder you concentrate on getting signed, the less likely it will happen. put your focus into your music and getting your name to the right places, do it for the right reasons and have fun, and the rest will happen naturally if it's meant to be.
-gotta switch it up for the second drop, either timbre or automation (you have the right idea at 3:33).. no one likes copy and paste unless it's a timeless line
-cut the main riffs down time-wise if you dont want to switch it up to lessen the repetition

overall:
=you've got the right stuff man, but you've got to come up with something super original and put on a banging show if you're looking to get signed to a name-worthy label.. super clean production certainly helps, keep working on your tracks even when you think they're done, just listen to them over and over and imagine what you would want to hear in the song if you were a clubber to keep yourself interested. that way, you will have something that you and everyone else will love

much love and biggup :w:
