Yeah I like it man, It's very ambient. Didn't get a chance to listen to the first version so I can't comment on any changes made, but I would say that for me there needs to be more of a lead/melody/hook to keep the track going

hey, could you guys check out this tune i've been trying to make :) ?

it starts of slow and at half step at the beginning but quickly speeds up so don't worry if you're bored at the beginning  the sub bass seems to have got messed up at the beginning and one of the kick drum samples sounds really strange but didn't noticed until after i uploaded it but anyway here it is
Soundcloud thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Geeza, I agree, it gets boring along the way so maybe some vocal work could make it more interesting.

The beat is sick, the white noise chopped up reminds me of 90s underground like gang star and what not. That lyric sample is terrible for a beat like that though.

Reworked the reggae dub - 'FMX - Focus'

Post by FMX » Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:58 pm

So i orignally posted this track a couple of days ago (it's my first ever dub)

and i recieved some excellent advice from some experienced Dubsters...and i put it into use straight away

so here's the track

Soundcloud

some of the comments i got were...
drums needed mixed up, kick drum needed beefing up, drop could do with being more pronounced!
I will be very happy for any more feedback as this my first track posted here.

Thanks in advance guys :t: :e:

P.s The original track is on my soundcloud profile so you can compare (or page 136 of this forum).

Well its like a crunk / party rap lyric. Like lil john or whatever, but the beat has a more intellectual feel, have you heard any gang starr stuff? Check it out on youtube if you haven't. Above the clouds has a similiar style beat.

Song has tons of potential. In the intro, the beat needs to come in after that reggae melody to bring up the vibe of the song and the beat to give it organization later. And the wobble needs more consistency. So tune that wobble to your ideal sound, and then use the wobble less often, as in use it for 8 bars every 32 or so. This will give the song some more excitement, organization and keep it interesting. Good work though, look forward to hearing the next part.

Edit: after listening to the first version you have; bring that high hat back! bring the high hat in at around 16 bars to let the listener know the song is building.

thanks man ! :t:

your comments and insight will be experimented and tested on the drawing board in the next edit!
i do realise the wobble is a bit inconsistant, i just couldnt be bothered to fix it up as it was 'ok'.

And also, you may see a return of the high hat !

much love, FMX.

these are the first tunes i've made, been mxing for almost 2 years now but so thought i'd have a go at producing.

first is a dubstep tune that is really quote rough at the mo.

Soundcloud

second is a drum 'n' bass tune that just needs a little bit of polish.

Soundcloud

feedback would be awesome. also check out my mixes on soundcloud if you got the time :D

The high hat in the dnb song kind of takes over the whole thing, try chopping it up and lowering the volume. I noticed taht your layout is good but i felt that the synths were a bit cheesy. Maybe filter them a little and bring in some distortion to give it more interest.

Btw that dnb intro was sick.
