Haven't watched that in years, but it's probably my favourite film. One of the speeches that Ellen makes when she's talking to the son is incredible... "it's a reason to lose weight, to fit into the red dress... it makes tomorrow alright"
It fucking vapourises my heart everytime I watch it, so I have to watch it very, very rarely!!

Great film. I did a mini presentation on the cinemtaography in one of the scenes of the apartment. The one when she looks out of the peephole in the door before she runs out into the street.

There is just something so bleek and emotional about this film. I cant feel much sympathy for the young characters (the girl lying on the sofa content she can easily buy more drugs buy performing arse to arse for strangers

) but you cant help but feel for the problems Sara has with her son and her forgiving nature. And also struggle she has to lose the weight and get into that dress and the downward spiral the pills send her into leading to her breakdown, you can literally see her wasting away as the film progresses. The part where her neighbours are crying on the bench after they visit her brought a tear to my eye...

I personally prefer pi to RFAD....by miles!
i maybe even prefer the fountain!
good kronos score though....all the drug taking snippet bits seemed a bit too stylish for the sake of it

The pupil shots are wrong too.

Aaronofsky is a badman, would agree with everything people are saying about RFAD (except you Piston

) - especially about not wanting to watch it often. Still not seen the Fountain though! Heard some dodgy reviews of it.

The Fountain is fantastic. It's overrated by pretentious students and underrated by pretentious critics. It's such a beautiful film though as long as you don't read in to it too much. Like, stunningly beautiful.

Still not seen The Fountain, but I've pretty much enjoyed everything else Aronofsky has done. Pi is stunning, especially the soundtrack... I'd like to rewatch it soon actually, because I haven't seen it since I was at school. My parents rented it on a Saturday night and I ended up watching it with them... blew my mind... but there was something that resonated in Requiem... I dunno, but it shook me up majorly.
Will certainly give The Fountain a crack based on Piston's recommendation! Maybe this weekend actually...

Jesus christ, this film ranks up there with the biggest piles of shit I have even seen, I cant believe I bothered to watch it to the end in the hope something half decent might happen.
Terrible cringe worthy script and story, riddled with cliches and needless swearing, that even manages to make great actors like Ray winston, John Hurt and Ian McShane look like a bunch of old fake has-been wannabe gansters failing to come across as intimidating.
Awful...

On the other hand:
Always thought this was underrated. Ben Kingsley is fucking amazing.
