I posted this in unfinished tracks but I'm pretty burnt out working on it so I'm gonna call it done, but I would love some feedback on this! I've been producing for a while experimenting with different styles, and i recently discovered dubstep, so i figured id give it a shot. This is my first attempt at a dubstep track, and I used Logic 9. Any feedback would be appreciated.![]()

plus:
+interesting choice of song to remix, you pulled it off nicely
+big fat intro beat sets the mood right
+nice delay work on the vocals
+big drops!
+filthy wubz! nice flute sounding oscillations as well
+crispy production
advice:
-hmm, really have to stretch to give you some pointers.. this tracks about done and ready for the dancehall, methinks!
-breaks are maybe...maaaaybe a measure or two long..
-i'd love to see what else you can do, automation wise, during the second drop, but thats me being greedy
overall:
=pro!!!pro!!! i feel like pandora.com would play this if i typed in "rusko" and then "Pirate soundsystem". big big big ups, add me on the myspace if ya gots one, you're top notch!!

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Just because of the drum arrangement, it's more of a breaks tune than a dubstep tune. Try the snare on the 3rd and you can pretty much put everything anywhere else and that should help the rhythm a bit. The samples are nice and housey. The mastering is pretty crisp too, I like the overall vibe.apfelsaft wrote:Soundcloud
First post =) Hi. I'd love to know what you think, im new to this dubstep stuffs.
It's a nice tune, just not that dubsteppy.
Here's my latest finished one, leave me some feedback/comments/flowers etc

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
very baslliney/garagey.... theres quite alot of rigid ness in the drums, turn your quantize off and experiment a bit... and you don't necessarily need to do a snare on the 3rdonly... just your drums were full on breaks... the rythms more with the bassline than with the drumsapfelsaft wrote:Soundcloud

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Cheers bro. Yea I find that most of my tunes drag out a bit, find it hard to come up with something that sounds different but good for an intro/breakdown/second drop. Any tips on just how to do something simple that I can play with?knell wrote:Danky - "Third Leg"princess_raul wrote:Soundcloud
Or anything on my soundcloud, didn't even realise this thread was here till tonight <_<
pluses:
+cello!! super duper man, definitely my favorite instrument
+sluggy basslines, super lurker sounding, almost like eating a swamp
+clever high hat work, almost random but still in sync
+unique dub bass, brings back the old school grime days
+changing up the drums for variety
+bass follows cello pattern, great at the beginning
advice:
-bell synths are super harsh, gets a little grating towards the end, maybe mix a little lower or EQ
-i assume you wanted the drop at 0:55? needs to be a little more distinct, the whole track almost sounds like an intro
-the synth morphs way late in the song, might want to have a different synth or note pattern come in
-song drags a bit, would have to be mixed into other songs well to have the desired effect
-needs bit more variation to be interesting, or length of song brought down
overall:
=pretty standard for a grime track, has a nice bob to it but definitely drags a bit. if you put in a half time or double time section, it would definitely spice it up.
Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Thats a terrifying idea, but i'll give it a go. I'm trying my hand at dubstep after producing a lot of jungle and I've spent a lot of time working around breaks, so I think getting the rhythm away from percussion and into other parts of the mix is going to be hard work. Thanks for the input, much appreciated.turn your quantize off
I've got another track here that I've been working on this morning. I think I've probably made the same mistakes with this?

And to Princess Raul:
I find that an easy way of getting a structure into a track is by carefully labelling every synth and pattern as I muck around, and then once I've got some sounds and loops that work together I delete pretty much everything in the sequencer (or just shifting it all to one side) and start again, building it back up bit by bit and paying as little attention as possible to the original. Chop your loops into 2 (part a and part b) and put them into the sequencer as a a a b, then maybe a a a c, a b a c. While you're rebuilding the track you might find parts that sound like a breakdown together once everything else is muted, or you might find that some combinations sound like an intro.

Like this tune loving the drop!!! the bass needs some work I think, is the bass meant to drop out to low volume like that? if not maybe upping the sustain in the amp envelope would be a good idea. i would suggest sidechaining the drums as well as theres a lot of things on the same frequency.
I was given the same tip by someone on here as im new to producing to and it does make a hell of a difference.
All in all a good effort i really like your rhythem of the tune and the bass sound is alot!!!
Theres a lot of people on here with a hell of a lot of technical knowledge who will be able to help you more and give you more advice though, im not very knowladgeable on that part.
What programme are you using?
Again like this tune smashed it mate but still needs some work
Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Haha nice tune bruv like this .
