Kuma booked Kode 9 to play in the warehouse I was living in and I was astonished, ecstatic and forever changed. :D

There's some addictive bizniz going on with dubstep. As soon as I heard it properly I understood - obviously not that I understood everything cuz that's part of the beauty of it, that's there's so much to find out about and appreciate. But I knew straight away that this was for me.

In a nutshell: bass and bleeps in the shape of Detroit techno, Chicago house, early Warp techno like LFO and Centreforce FM. Then onwards, taking in some jungle and 2step and grime (the last two pretty much just buying a few records and not going to any dances). This is the first thing I've been totally 100% sucked into since I used to save up my dinner money to buy Derrick May records at the old Blackmarket.

Bit of an audiophile. Love checkin out genres and tracks new to myself. Came across a couple snippets here and there earlier this year. Hella dug it but didn't have the time or resources to dive in and give it a good listen. The past couple months have hella eased up and 've given me the time to toss a good peep.
My area, I'm pretty much the only cat down on the cause. Pretty much a pisser cause I've got to roll a couple miles to hit the live sounds. Do-able tho cause I got a couple cats checkin this noise and hella diggin it.
Spreading what I know thus far to them who feel.
This mess is hella strong and provocative. Snowballing bigger n' bigger by the sec.
Love it!

I was very dismissive of dubstep when I first heard it - I've always been a fan of higher tempo stuff - breaks, house, d+b etc. and I couldn't understand how something so slow could grab you - but when I heard Milanese's Mr. Bad Guy and some of Marlow's stuff that all changed.. I still wouldn't call myself a dubstep 'fan', because there's a lot that I do find a bit too dull for my liking, but digging a little deeper than the most well-known stuff I'm discovering tracks that I'm really keen on.

big technohead in the 90's....last few years been djing reggae and dub once in a while...the dub was just never heavy enough... then I heard Loefah.....boom. Perfect mix of the beats and the bass for me...also, the DIY friendly aspect of the scene reminds me of the old punk and rave days.... big up.

I have been spinning lots of other types of electronic music for some time. Quite a lot of tunes that have been important to me over the years could now be classified as dubstep, but were never made as dubstep:

Flat beat - Mr Oizo, Angel - Massive attack, Walkie Talkie - DJ Shadow and the list goes on

To quote a friend, its noise that is musical (not of the squarepusher variety). Harsh sounds, melodic sounds, big beats and BASS!!!!

Went to my first DMZ and the penny dropped but I have really been a dubstep fan in waiting all my life

I went to an event that had Vex'd and Plasticman (Plastician) as the headliners. Never really heard the music before, but was intrigued after hearing them play. Checked out the dubstep wars show that MA Hobbes did on the breezeblock and that intensified the curiousity. Then a couple friends of mine switched from making breaks to making dubstep tunes. I had been listening to a fair bit of dubstep at that point, and it just kept growing in my head.

Then I stumbled upon this place, and all was set in stone.

Oh ya, I also did a random Thursday night show that a ton of people came out to November. From that point it's really been a focus of my musical interest.

1. got into dnb/jungle, became more receptive to instrumental styles
2. jubscarz banged on about it a lot
3. my mate tom made me listen to anti war dub
4. kode9 at detonate to a dancefloor crowd of maybe 20 or so people
5. bought honour kill/i rmx/skreamizm 1/ancient memories/anti war dub
6. went to dmz- loefah/mala, skream, kode9, plastician
7. went to dmz summer blazedown- mala/loefah, skream/hatcha, youngsta/ntype
8. thought ''fucking hell this music is brass, bloody racket''
9. saw own pic in mixmag at dmz, became hooked on the fame and determined to pretend i liked dubstep, at least until the media spotlight shifted over to something a bit better, like hard trance.

Thhhhhat about did it.

been spinning techno for years, but love all kinds of good music, from punk rock, to dub, to folk, to jazz to hiphop.

was on a techno forum and some people were talking about dubstep and it just sounded...interesting.

so i followed their links to barefiles and to here, and was hooked from the getgo. that was in, i guess, early spring 06. started hunting down whatever music i could find, and just got more and more addicted.

now i split dj gigs between techno and dubstep (although we are still definitely in the building stages of getting people to listen here in the midwest USA). more and more people are listening tho, and i enjoy playing it for em. :) and sometimes when i am booked for techno, i have to throw in some dubstep just to make myself happy (and it throws a whole new vibe into the mix as well).

this music is continuing to keep me interested, with so much variation and different influences all over it. so happy to have found it.
Here, have a free tune:

all through rinse.. i was big on grime.. when i was a youngen.. so always locked into rinse, ths was back in 2003.. that sort of music though if i remeber corectly never really got played... over 2004.. started getting air time but was still big into my grime and garage.... so didnt really pay attention to it at all, but listened to it and jaz fm to help me go to sleep sufered from insomnia, and when there is shit on tv radio is all u got... them times then it wernt uncommon for a rins dj to play 3am-6am, listening to chef sundays 1-3 and darkside... i dunno started getting more into instrumentals, grew up a bit so all the hype in grime glyrics was starting to not be so appealing.. i was feeling more of the beats, wel these 2 guys started playing darker grime... thats what it was all about.. throwing in a fe dubstep tunes..now and again...and it toook of from mid 2004... and here i am now

big up chef-darkside forputting this music into the spotlight..

Was into Electro & Breaks. Quite a few Dj's starting playing some early dubstep sounds. Heard more through Bingo Beats compalations. Started to pick up Texture, Big Apple, Tempa and Road releases from Bi-wire & Big apple records aswell as a Groove City back in Notts. Carried on ever since.
