THE SPECIALS can do no wrong. Did you know that Elvis Costello was the executive producer for a lot of their material?
Plus....a lot of their music finds their way to commercials.
A Message to You was used in a diaper commercial.
MonkeyMan was used in a Capitol One credit card spot.
LOVE THESE GUYS.

The Specials wrote some of the best songs going, Concrete Jungle is the catchiest song I have ever heard.
Its so true even their song covers are gold.
God bless Two Tone

"We are now up against live, hostile targets. So, if Little Red Riding Hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch."
I remember going to HMV with my dad when Ghost Town first came out - he bought it on 7" single - pinched it off him when I moved out and still have it!

saw in the new year to neville staples and his his band , was fresh ... did all the classics , was a right knees up ... appart from the sh!t dj on after them who started off playin some good ska then digressed into r&b usher / r kelly style ... then when we trimmed him for that , played the worst ace of bass stye reggae you could imagine ... safe to say we jetted pretty rapid after abusing for being a total cock hound .

Yeah, Elvis Costello was in the audience skanking out! Later on, he offered to produce them.joenice wrote:THE SPECIALS can do no wrong. Did you know that Elvis Costello was the executive producer for a lot of their material?

Ah, man. Have you heard the 12" of that? It gets nice and dubby during the middle 8. Fantastic stuff. Almost as good as the man at C&A...KION wrote:I remember going to HMV with my dad when Ghost Town first came out - he bought it on 7" single - pinched it off him when I moved out and still have it!

Man at C&A is probably me favourite Specials track - "Warnin, warnin, nuclear attack"two oh one wrote:Ah, man. Have you heard the 12" of that? It gets nice and dubby during the middle 8. Keep thinking that Fun Boy Three's "Lunatics are taking over the asylum" was a sequel to that tune. Liked the stuff Terry Hall did with Tricky on the Nearly God album, really spooked out shit.
And don't forget the Beat, they had some corking tunes - Mirror in the Bathroom, Tears of a Clown, Can't get Used to Losing You, Twist and Crawl, etc.
Not 2 Tone in the slightest, but early Police is still worth a listen. "Beds too big without you" is a particular fave.
Hmm....
