oi oi, sorry about my absence recently...

first things first:
-thanks to those reviewers, and i appreciate and respect the review of my tracks
-i've been busy doing my thing, and i got featured on the Haiti relief disk! so definitely check that out, especially the track "Rising" by Flexie... good GOD that track is BUTTER, definitely gets the "Knell Seal of Approval"

http://www.digital-tunes.net/releases/d ... volume_one

http://www.junodownload.com/products/1512775-02.html

if you're poor, check out digiTunes, they're quite a bit cheaper
if you're loaded and want to support the charity more, hit up Juno

JSaxton - "XY Chrome"

props:

+panning in the intro always gives it a trippy start
+love that sweep into the drop
+haha! that bass is facking UNIQUE! took me off guard, for sure!
+nice use and mixing of samples
+drops are nice and pronounced

advice:

-variation of automation on that bass is great, but Knell is hungry for MOARRRRR, i am borderline insatiable tho so dont go too wild haha
-just a thought, but since the song is x/y chrome, it'd be awesome if the Yaggy bass was occasionally responded by a higher pitched, more feminine bass, however you pretty much achieve this with the lady sample, so... yeh. dunno...
-that bass could use a switchup along the way tho, like slower/faster for the second drop? would really destroy peoples ideas of stability
-drums might want to get slightly more intense in pattern towards the end to give the song a little more build

overall:
=that bass really takes the cake. actually it sounds like someone choking on cake..! which is awesome, first time i've heard that particular sound, ever! the song relies on it, so definitely spice it up just a tad, give it a little more build and edge and you've got another Jsax classic!!!

thank ya sir... i personally bought several copies of it, even the 192kbps... haha!! both those flexie tracks are INTENSE!! really proud of the whole tracklist, really, these guys really put some bangers into a good cause.. some for more amiable reasons than others, but either way all the money goes to Haiti! plus every $100 is matched $3500 by Americares!! so we've already raised over $10+K!!

i was goin for a deeper style of dubstep with a melodic tune that kinda made you stop n think and deep bass that kept ya move'n.
Any feedback appreciated
Soundcloud
JQ - "I N H"

props:
+SINISTER intro with those throat vox
+that intro synth is a nice blend of old/new
+can feel the sub bass even in my shatty headphones, so i know its gotta be good!
+nice melody line/breaks
+(2:46) drop is intense, like, horror movie intense
+that drum break after it is also tasty
+phatty snares

advice:
-the variation comes in pretty late in the song, and at 5+ min i dunno if most people would have that patience
-this song relies on the bell-ish/broken piano 8bit kinda synth you have goin on, so might want to throw some surprises in the melody line earlier on, like a fancy ending to a measure or two
-maybe some hi freq builds back into the melody after those breaks... they're so intense that they drop all the energy, which is really effective but you have to hype people back up a little and prepare them for the main riff again..! you have those reverse cymbs already in there, so play with them a bit, drag em out, maybe a false drop or two.. i know that would make me get hype
-maybe mess with the throat vox later in the song (if they're not one long sample, if so you could try staggering it at the end of one of the refrains to make people really lose it)

overall:
=by the second listen, i was basically trancing out to this one! very nice, and the melody confused me as to whether it was major or minor at times, which i really enjoyed. this song is done if you want it to be, but if you want to throw it on an EP with a single or something and keep it the same length, i would add a dash or two of spice just to really make people snap to attention

Tripwire - "Final Fantasy (WIP)"

props:
+okay, im admit it: i never played FF7... however, i love the music i hear from it, and this is no exception
+if its mostly original, BIGGUP! you've caught the vibe very well
+flow is progressive and engaging, so far, left me wanting more when it cuts off
+reminds me of the good ole days

advice:
-not sure how much of this is sampled and how much is original... ill leave that to JFK... however.. if this is mostly sampled i would be wary of copyright issues, i assume Square/Enix are beasts when it comes to their music
-others might want to comment on the sub bass to make sure im not crazy or my head phones are messin up or something, but it was super clippy/crackly for me, however this was only noticeable when it was alone with the 8bitty.. to fix this i would lower the freq a tad, drop it a little lower in the mix and up the resonance, finding the "sweet spot" if you have a self-oscillating filter. this will make it not clip and still be really chest-rattlin'
-would want some sort of hard electro vibe to come in at some point when you're done, just to make it sound a little less like an ambient videogame ..track

overall:
=great so far, especially if you wrote that melody line!! keep it up, and throw some strong electro vibes in there unless you want it to be an ambient track for FF XXIII, or whatever number they're on now  .. so. biggup. brings out the nerd in me and i love that

Awesome track. Breaks all in the right place. White noise sweeps (or whatever it is) done very well. Nice powerful kicks, and damn good progression throughout the track. Really good drum programing too, lots of variation which keeps it fresh . I really like the base too, not the usual in any way. Good use of audio samples too - although it isn't particularly easy to distinguish what is being said... I do think the "piano" could do with coming up a bit in the mix - this is completely subjective though. Very good production and fine musicianship, I'd love a copy if your giving them out at all...

Ah nothing was sampled i just played the notes by ear from what i remember from the songs in the reactors so i must be pretty close. i over compressed the bass by too much which is why its all shitty ill fix that. and im not quite sure what u mean by electro vibe i dont listen to that really?

Che Bru!!

Have bin thinkin to myself for a while i should throw some kind of synth in every now again. but have been seriously tryin to construct somethin that will improve the song and not bring it down so that might take me a couple of weeks :-D. respect for the vox variation suggestion, i hadnt thought of that but i reckon i could do somethin funky with it. not a long vox either so wouldn be two hard. i've pretty much stretched it over 32 bar anyway. As always sir thank you for your time. shall update ya with the remixed version :-D
