^^^point was:
US is fronting with on-the-ground help
(as are some others with dosh)
You think that it is planned intervention.
I don't.
And am pleased that US troops have been required to lessen the display of arms (despite civil unrest)
But I wonder where other wealthy nations are with substantial help.
Or is Haiti so unimportant in geopolitics that the US & Cuba are left to being neighbourly?

I think there's a large amount of this. [Despite having clearly planned the whole shebang], the US are part of several programmes providing emergency relief across The Americas... however bad things are looking right now, I wonder how they would've looked if this had happened pre-Katrina?

I do lean to thinking that global response to this sort of thing should come from the UN rather from individual nations, but people would find reasons to think anyone intervening was evil. Bottom line is people love "knowing more" even if there isn't more to know.

cant do a direct link because of the batty subscription on there, but the top one, "Needy in desperate wait for supplies" and "A shaken state" (23rd). Both help highlight many of the problems with aid co-ordination and military presence.

The biggest, richest and most powerful nations will always be naturally disliked (just like the biggest, richest and most successful football teams)... it's important to cut through the prejudice and evaluate nations on actions you can actually prove. There are plenty of valid reasons to vehemently complain about America... I don't get why people that could be championing intelligently progressive thinkers like Chomsky or Klein allow themselves to get bogged down in all this essentially unproveable tittle-tattle.

If it gets proven I'll happily eat my hat, but right now it seems like massive waste of effort from everyone involved... all this negative energy from people around the world desperately searching for reasons to paint America as some "great Satan" could be going towards genuinely progressive and effective causes.

that is such bullshit, you cant equate football to the world
american and england both fully deserve all the hatred we get, if we actually used our positions as the leaders of the world to help rather than just make money wherever possible and grab monopolies...........

I agree that the biggest nations abuse their positions (as the authors I mention will tell the world until they're blue in the face!), but so-called "progressives" don't filter as well as they should - it's tempting to latch onto every theory about the US because they're such a big target.

The football analogy was lighthearted, but I think it's more relevant than you think. America get called the "great satan" and accused of actions bordering on genocide, yet I don't see similar insults been thrown at Zimbabwe which is, without a shadow of a doubt, a far worse administration. Hell, I even see people sticking up for people like Ahmedinejad/Khomeni... "my enemy's enemy is my friend" doesn't always work.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, especially not you, by saying I don't believe this stuff. Opinions are opinions.

sorry i was being calm, bullshit is a calm word lol
i dont think zimbabwe is a far worse administration, the american one has been going on much longer, but is just way more subtle
its obviously evil and needs to be sorted out, but i just think the american one is much more evil
btw this is nothing against american people, im talking about the heads of the corps, shadow government types, the bushes, the council foreign relations, bilderbergs etc
englands just as much the great satan for the same reasons
