Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Re: 1988 - 1989 Acid / House mix
There is not a single Electro beat in any of these records.finkthast wrote:some of the more squeltchy/electro ones are fookin amazing. good to know. cheers!
All records are House with use of a 303, this is Electro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I280cxs2jvA

geeees. sorry for getting my 808's/303's , detroit/chicago's all mixed up there.serox wrote:There is not a single Electro beat in any of these records.finkthast wrote:some of the more squeltchy/electro ones are fookin amazing. good to know. cheers!

to me (bar the beat), some of the mr lee and fast eddie stuff clearly has heavy influences from electro there.
again. nice mix though.
Re: 1988 - 1989 Acid / House mix
This was all before Electro and Techno (apart from a few tracks that were coming out), 88 / 89 etc. This is nearly all straight 4/4 House beat, Electro is a different beat all together.finkthast wrote:

Fast Eddie would have been influenced by Disco and people like Kraftwerk I guess...
Some seriously sick grooves going on with these tracks.

Re: 1988 - 1989 Acid / House mix
This is a very accurate snapshot of part of the scene pre hardcore rave There are some key tracks in the mix such as day in the life(sampled countless times in rave tracks) and of course think which was one of the corner stone tracks in hip hop, hip house and subsequently rave. Todd Terry and the Hip-House producers were (along with others of course) massively influential in the scene that was to followserox wrote:Reaching for the 1988 - 1989 house records. Also a lot less fragmentation in those days you would hear house from wherever not necessarily just Chicago or Just Detroit- that went out of the window when the blanket rave scene took root..
Well put together and isn't it great that mixes like these are in circulation to give some education
Standout tracks for me
Derrick May - Illusion
Sugar Bear - Don't Scandalize Mine (Vocal Mix)
Chubb Rock With Howie Tee - Ya Bad Chubbs
Todd Terry - A Day In The Life
Todd Terry - Bango (To The Batmobile)
Royal House - Can You Party
Joe Smooth - Promised Land
Blake Baxter - When We use To Play
Re: 1988 - 1989 Acid / House mix
Granted electro was quite easily defined by its non 4/4 rhythms - Numbers by Kraftwerk being one of the early examples of a classic electro beat - but it was established way before Acid House
check Soul Sonic Force 'Planet Rock', Cybotron 'Clear', even Paul Hardcastle's UK number 1 '19' as examples of the early 80s sound.
i do take into account you said a few trax were coming out but actually the sound and name Electro were everywhere
The label Street Sounds had a series of Electro compilations that began back then too - often to be heard played by practising breakdancers / bodypoppers on their boom boxes in the park at the end of my street. Inspiring scenes!
when people talk about electro-house in the current sense i get more confused because i cant hear any influence from electro at all - especially with the 4/4 in place
anyway an interesting and broad selection and good post

love this stuff, can't wait to listen
strictly vinyl. strictly rotary. strictly old men with beards.
Re: 1988 - 1989 Acid / House mix
Thanks for adding this. I do still like to play Planet Rock and Clear whenever I get the chance to play what I call Electro. I also do not understand what this "electro house" stuff is all about?! it has nothing to do with Electro! it is straight up House music.dj donga wrote:Granted electro was quite easily defined by its non 4/4 rhythms - Numbers by Kraftwerk being one of the early examples of a classic electro beat - but it was established way before Acid House
