Too much essential factual stuff on the Beeb right now. Despite Andrew Marr being a bit of an insuffrable douche, that modern British history he's doing has been quite good. Watched the one on the 50s last night, it was excellent. The pre-war series "Making of Modern Britain" was worth a watch too.
"How The Earth Made Us" has been amazing so far. First episode is genuinely mindblowing; second one was a bit more 'known' to me, but still very good.
My girlfriend rolls her eyes almost every time I reach for the iPlayer at the moment!

I <3 iPlayer. I also <3 the fact the PS3 has it
You're right about there being too much good stuff tho, I hadn't even heard of that one you just mentioned. That's another added to the list. They need to keep shit on iPlayer for way more than 1 week.

The best thing on BBC 4 at the moment is this man:

He's always made some of the best docs and he's back on BBC 4 with a new series, safe as fack!

Re: BBC4
Just about everything he's done, he did an excellent series on the N a z i s and socialist architecture with out the "OMG ITS SHIT BECAUSE ITS izan" hysteria that you get. Brilliant stuff.
He was in Aberdeen last week.

Just been watching this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... _Us_Water/
Pretty interesting:
Professor Iain Stewart continues his epic exploration of how the planet has shaped human history.
This time he explores our complex relationship with water. Visiting spectacular locations in Iceland, the Middle East and India, Iain shows how control over water has been central to human existence.
He takes a precarious flight in a motorised paraglider to experience the cycle of freshwater that we depend on, discovers how villagers in the foothills of the Himalayas have built a living bridge to cope with the monsoon, and visits Egypt to reveal the secret of the pharaohs' success.
Broadcast on:
BBC HD, 10:00pm Tuesday 26th January 2010
Duration:
60 minutes

It's one of the only channels without "Fuck me I'm dancing!!!!!" crap on it, just for that it wins.

Epic programme. Especially because it's called HARDtalk too. FUCK YEAH.
Re: BBC4
Sorry, what was that? Jonathan Meades' Entire Televisual Output on Youtube? Surely not!Pi-Krust wrote:you talking about the Off Kilter thingy?,that was great especially the episode on scottish lower league football townsfirky wrote:The best thing on BBC 4 at the moment is this man:

My personal favourite "this is why I love the license fee" moment since the death of
was a BBC 4 documentary about iconoclastic young alpenhorn players shaking up the yodelling establishment[1] by actually going back to a more traditional way of playing and returning to pre-equal tempered microtonal styles.[1] no, reallly
Re: BBC4
Yeah I found the shrine on youtube myself and subscribe to it. I keep meaning to buy 'Filthy English' a book he wrote with several short stories in it. Including one about a dog who's a porn star.
Re: BBC4
Will Self with his rehearsed thesaurus and clumsy verbose is utterly shite next to Meades. Meades really is a man who can use the english language, Will Self just injects his sentences with words with more than three syllables and waves his hand in the air to emphasise he's used a big word.
