There's nothing incredible about James Blake
I've held my tongue on this one long enough. James Blake fans: do your worst, I dare you.
Let's look at this man's portfolio, shall we?
I can appreciate the 8-bit sounds, the mellow feel, etc, trust me. But with comments
in the video like "This guy is gonna blow up like the Oklahoma bombing", really?? No
fucking chance. If you ran a record label and I was some guy you'd never heard of in
your life (which I am) and a copy of this made its way across your desk, you'd be like
"Umm, cool. Yeah". Eject. Garbage. NEXT!!
This is easily the most annoying GD song I've heard in my entire life, but that didn't
stop youtubers from proclaiming "best track of 09" and "next level"! This song is
anything BUT the best track of '09 OR next level. Which planet did you
spend the majority of YOUR '09 on??
This song gets off to a good start with honest-seeming male vocals and soft organy
synths. But it goes nowhere and gets annoying fast, not unlike its two older brothers
above.
This song reminds me of Autechre, and I like Autechre, so you'd think I'd like this song,
right? But you see, it just has a little too much James Blake in it - which, in case you
haven't picked up on so far, is a bad thing.
These are the responses I expect to get to this thread:
1. "FUCK YOU!!"
2. "FUCK YOU JAMES BLAKE IS AWSOME!!1!"
3. "Your jus hatin bc you don know what real dubstep is okay you need to stop being such a bandwagon jumperer!!"
4. "Shut up, james blakke is going to be huge!!!!"
5. "You fucking idiot, you probably only like dubstep as a fashion statement. Get your head out of your ass."
6. "James Blake is the BESTT!"
7. "james for prez '10!!"

Re: There's nothing incredible about James Blake
I could make a million threads titled:
"There's nothing incredible about..." for any hyped Producer but I wouldn't because that'd make it a waste thread.
What do expect to achieve from this? For everyone to agree with you?
Un-fucking-likely.

I'm not sorry. I don't expect anybody to agree with me, I want james blake fans to tell me why they like him so much. If you don't love james blake, don't bother reading this thread mmmkay?
Edit: I posted this bullshit in here b/c the people in here are way more likely to offer intelligent discussion, agreed? And come on people, don't get sand in your vag. It's not like we're swimming in threads like "I hate this artist", "I hate that artist". I merely deconstructed all the flowering praise surrounding this guy that I haven't been altogether too impressed with and I'm asking people to justify it for me. Where was this supposed line I crossed?

If I ran a label and you sent me Air & Lack Thereof, I'd release it in a heartbeat.WatchYourStep wrote:I'm not sorry. I don't expect anybody to agree with me, I want james blake fans to tell me why they like him so much. If you don't love james blake, don't bother reading this thread mmmkay?
James Blake's remix of Stop What You're Doing was one of the most inspiring things to come out of 2009, and hands down the best dubstep release of last year. The way the synths repeatedly build in intensity, but never quite reach their peak is something I honestly haven't heard before. The jerky stop-n-go rhythm just adds to the intensity of the track.
I Never Learnt To Share has incredibly tight synth work, and sounds like it's threatening to fall apart at any second, yet it remains cohesive, and keeps its groove.
Pembroke has an well-used pitched vocals, incredible synths, and a nice slow rolling funk that feels unstoppable.
It's looking like your taste is the only real obstacle preventing you from liking this incredible artist.
EDIT: By the way, I had never heard Pembroke before, thanks for bringing it to my attention!
fuck off

Finally, we have our first taker! I had to give each song another listen after what you wrote, and I can say that 'A<' grew on me a little bit, but 'SWYD' still sounds like a hundred crying babies, inspiring or not. 'INLTS' might have tight synth work, but those spots where the synths are in disharmony really grate on my nerves.Helix [Delay] wrote:If I ran a label and you sent me Air & Lack Thereof, I'd release it in a heartbeat.

And that, my friends, is how you have a frank discussion about musical tastes.

THIS is why I posted this in here lol. Because unlike 99% of the world, people here have a sense of humour and don't take life too seriously! If he said this to me, I'd have laughedamick wrote:Fuck you.

I don't think Tom Waits is all that. Does that mean he's shit or I just don't like his style?
Dude get your head out your ass and possibly get on board with the idea that just because you don't like James Blake's music (you might think he's a top bloke, I don't know), that doesn't say much about his actual ability.

I find it hard to believe James Blake die-hard fans exist when he's only released 6 tunes.WatchYourStep wrote:It's not like i can't hear the intricacies, i just didn't like the songs and i wanted die-hard fans to explain to me why they die so hard
