controlling wobble!

Post by belaj » Thu Feb 11, 2010 2:15 pm

ello!
I have read few topics concerning controlling/automating wobble in vst synths, and metod with assigning rate to knob/slider works pretty good for me,
But! I wonder is there a metod to assign on which division you want lfo rate to jump exactly. I mean, for example in albino,
If I have LFO with rate of 1/8 and want to get to, lets say 1/32 I have to go through everything in between. Or maybe its possible to assign some rates to buttons?I intend to use this method with live band,so I'm trying to find easyest and most accurate way...
cheers

I don't know how it works with your DAW, but in FL for example. if you change the set rate (1/8 1/16 etc etc) and then go to Tools > Last Tweak, you can set the precise parameters with either event controls or automation.

Im not sure how or even if this translates to your daw, but if it has that kind of capability, it should work.

Don't sync it, so it won't "jump". Requires some skill to do it good.

You could also assign different speeds to velocity or pitch.

Dont use albino but most synths have a sync option ...
you could also draw in the modulation in the arrangement

EDIT - I think I misread the question

Thanks for ideas!Hmmm, not sure, I use cubase, I'll give it a try in midi/controller options, I'm not too familiar with FL.
Btw, How do you assign "different speeds to velocity or pitch"in albino?

In the mod matrix, use velocity/pitch as source and LFO rate as destination.

some synths also have a keyboard tracking knob on the LFO. This is basicly links pitch to lfo speed as well.

record the wobble at a sync of 1/8, then record the sync for x/y.
that way, you got to different samples you just can stick together. i'd ddo it like that at least...

I've always had the same problem. It would be ideal if I could set up three midi buttons, not a knob, to exact rates like say 1/2 3/8 and 1/16. So instead of turning a knob to span thru the rates including ones you dont wannt...I could snap from 1/2 to 1/16th then to 3/8...seamlessly

yes, that's exacrly what I had in mind! but I suppose it's not possible :( Maybe if synth would have buttons for it, and not drop down menu with rates..

this

much better to have sync switched off

In Ableton, I know you can create an automation or link to controller for the rate knob.. But you can also limit from what range does that clip effect. So you can limit it for example to only switch between 1/4 and 1/8 time, youll still have all the in between speeds but it will cut all the super fast and super slow wobs. Im not sure if this is possible in FL
though.

yes, that definitely requires some skills, I used to use rate knob on my nord lead that way, but it was veryy hard to stay in sync when getting back from fast to slow rate. you say this thing this thing with buttons assigned to exact rate is possible afterall?

I use the automation in cubase for this, I´ll have the LFO synced, and I can draw in the automation curves too hit the desired tempo sync rate.

I know you can change rate range in ableton but this does not allow skipping rates. Seems like using automation or velocity curves are best way to do it in a non live performance setting. Oerhaps there is a special synth or Vst plug filter that has individually remote mappable lfo rate buttons...that would sorta suffice.
