Original Pirate Material Appreciation Thread

Surely, i'm not the only one round these parts who has failed to get past this one (in regards to his repertoire). Just came across the CD and some of the CD singles I thought I binned/given to a new home, don't even need to say how much I'm lovin' it. Lady due back in little over an hour and a half, I've got the jams on, grooving it along, no intension what so ever to tidy up this shit den of a flat, instead i'm preparing for a night of some mischievous fun. Listening after a year or so of not, and it's still as good as was back when it was my bible during my misspent youth :e:

Where's the love peeps? Let's be 'avin it! :w:

That's it that's it that's it
Yeah oh tunes heavy
At street level
That's it that's it that's it yeah.. oh oh right there

:z:
waitin dey happen bluud???

I haven't heard that one. That's the 2nd one right? I heard some of the singles from it on the radio way back whenever, just seemed like a total downer, where as Original Pirate Material is where your friday night begins. Total bangin' tunes, with deep lyrical flow and my exact same mindset, then, as it, STILL, is to this day.

I'm not sure, I just like the roughneck sounds of it all, really funky harmless fun. :t:

grand is incredible because the whole album is written as one story that carrys brilliantly and ends with two different endings, a pessemistic one and an optimistic one.

Will see if I can conjure up some pennies and grab it from a second hand bin somewhere... but yeah, Original Pirate Material is a story in itself too, I just didn't think it could be topped (by Mike Skinner and co. at least, will report back with findings in due course.)

OPM is amazing. Grand Don't Come For Free is pretty good; though all the best tunes sound a bit like ripoffs from OPM... after that, he goes into SERIOUS decline.

yes, amazing album, one of the best British releases in years, so original (lol) and influential but also open about it's influences and the cultures that it came from. Also it's just fucking heavy 8) 8) 8)

I love Original Pirate Material and still listen to it all the time.

Not that fussed about anything he's done since though.

The second album was nowhere near as good (except 'Blinded By The Lights' which is great).

Blinded By The Lights still pales in comparison to Weak Become Heroes, IMO.

hard choice to make.
BBTL wins it for me tho, it just sounds so sad and uplifting and heartbreaking and life affirming all at the same time
