Giggs UK Tour Cancelled by the met

Post by Motorway to Roswell » Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:12 pm

Peckham rapper Giggs has had his UK tour cancelled after promoters consulted the Metropolitan police over security fears.
Everything seems to be getting shut down.

nothing new unfortunately :(

if things aren't getting shut down outright they end up with over xyz age policies on the door that get imposed by the police

you can understand in a way if violence is becoming routine at events but it would be far better to try and solve the root cause rather than just stopping events happening. most of the time it's not the event or artist that causes the problem but issues from the street that end up spilling into clubs, so it's not as if the violence is being prevented - it's just getting moved elsewhere

the root cause is generated mainly by the same people who punish you for the outcome

As much as it sucks that your Police are shutting this all down, Giggs is garbage so who cares? He reminds me of every shitty rapper who just puts a shit ton of work in the local scene and some how doesn't get jocked at every show.

Yeah I really dont have any good MC's in my area either; in general they all don't know how to flow without being slow and monotone (or they're always just yelling), and there rhymes are so basic they remind me of nursery rhymes. Giggs reminds me of every single one these kids, and every time I hear one of his songs it baffles me that he's as big as he is. :?

The fact he has one of the best voices I've heard in a long time helps. Doesn't make him a good rapper, no...just annoys me he's not using his gift better..

Still like the "ooof" though haha

Giggs was like the first Uk rapper to my knowledge to come with that style, slow rapping, deep voice, decent rhymes and of course the ooooh thing.
He does what he does well and thats what gives him the 'badman' image in UK Rap which is fair enough.
I just don't see why these MCs think its 'hard' to copy Giggs. Don't they realise that their lyrics are shit and their voice hasn't yet broken?

Giggs is a bit shit, but the police have got to stop with this crap... been going on as long as I've been clubbing.

This.

It's just ridiculous...along with them wanting to shut down Plastic People?? I mean..Plastic People? Really? I've never seen one bit of trouble in there..not even an argument!! I just don't understand how they choose what they're trying to shut down!?? I don't even know if there are other reasons either (like the whole Residential Building thing with Curtain Rd) half the time...apart from flexing their muscles that is.

Thats fair enough I suppose. I'm still kinda choked he's as big as he is, but as long as it helps the scene right?

Yeah and the cop thing is ridiculous. The cops shut down Caspa here on halloween, and got us kicked out of that venue (our main one for huge dubstep shows). They followed it up by closing the Warehouse, which has been our electronic music club for like 15+ years now or something. Fuck the popo

Its got some good tunes on it, although people could find some of the songs a bit too repetitive. Especially compared to his more commercial stuff like "Slow songs"
SN1 crew still deserves some credit though.

I saw the video to Slow Songs once on U (or whatever it is these days..). I'll be honest...I hated it.

I'll check out the mixtape at some point...maybe his intelligent, tought provoking verses will open my eyes. Or not...

Oh :( I liked that tune, I take it you don't like Mike Skinner.
I must say they play mostly crap on U and similar channels.
His verses will open your eyes alright, maybe not in the right place.
And I think his mixtape it was going for a free download.

I do like Mike Skinner...but...Have never really liked any song he gets all sing-songy on...I've only heard that track once mind you...and if I was in a bad mood it could have been Mozart and I'd still thoguht it was mindless crap! haha

I'll give it another listen, as well as DL the mixtape because you told me to and I'll report back...

Over a million views on this one, for someone with almost no commercial backing or appeal, he's done well.
