Any one using any good exciter vst's?
Prefer free ones as I'm a cheap c#!t.

Try googling CLAS VST - it's a bit like a free version of Sonic Maximiser, but sounds pretty good, can't remember who makes it and you have to register, but pretty good all the same - or try exciter as a search in www.KVRaudio.com

This doesn't help but my emu sampler has one that is pretty wicked to play around with.
