So basically, right now, I'm studying a business degree, and I'm hating every single minute of it. It feels shit to be studying something that I'm so uninterested in, but I was young as fuck when I applied, so I didn't really know what I wanted to do.

So now, to ensure that I don't wind up going down that route, I'm saving up resources to get a diploma in something music related, that can hook me up to work in production or something. I think a production + business degree would be a pretty sick combination.

So where should I start? I was looking at the London School of Sound, but it's pretty damn pricey. Any ideas, in London, of where I can start my research?

i did music industry management at UEL but it was terrible and was pretty much just business studies so i left after my first year, i might go back to study 'music culture, theory and production' but im unsure

I was looking at something more practical. Something that'll just teach me the ins and outs of everything to with production/recording. Something that'll land me an internship at a production studio or something of that ilk. I've just realised I'm going to be quite depressed if I don't land a job that has something to do with music. The courses at LSS are really part time, which'll give me time to focus on my own music as well; but again moolaaah.

I've really been thinking for a while about dropping out of my Business course at Kings, but my folks would fucking flip. They say I should finish it for 'safety'.

How much longer have you got? Did you just start? If yuor parents aren't shelling out any cash for it, you might be able to persuade them over to your side?

Would you even need to get a diploma or degree? Couldn't you just try to get an internship some studio? It'd probably give you more experience than studying.

Well, I mean, I'm not even 100% sure I'm on my side. I mean I may be completely different when I'm 40 and a business degree in the pocket never hurts. That is if I pass, because I just havn't brought myself to do any of the work, really. But I really don't know if it's worth it. I do fucking hate it. Just feels a bit like a copout.

lol thats why i was considering going back to UEL and doing the culture, theory and production course. music management sucked balls and most of my lecturers where useless and/or could barely speak english. Studying under kode9 however would be intense

If you're near the start of your degree and you really hate it, then it's probably for the best if you change. Coz you'll end up hating it so much that you'll just have nothing to do with it afterwards (that's assuming you even pass it which would be very difficult if you really hated it). And probably end up bouncing about for the next 10 years figuring out what to do, bemoaning the fact that you've wasted 3 years of your life. And paying off a debt for something that you didn't want. You might be better off taking a half year break, work through what you actually want to do, and then get in next year's intake for something you might want to do. I've known people who've done this and were much happier for doing it. But, all the same, you could indeed look back when you're 40 and think "Shit." Depends on whether you're the type that wallows on for hours on could-have-beens.

If you're past the halfway point then it might be worth struggling through to the end of it. Then at least you might have something to show for it. And then go do something else. Business is one of those slippery things where it might always come in handy at some point.
