Hi I no you probably get asked a lot but I have been searching threads and only find out about wobble ect.
Im wanting to make the other grimey/dark sounds in tracks like Datsik, Xcision.
Also just any nice sounds like in Unitz-the drop.
Mainly sort of noises in Mt Eden - Silence. If you havent checked him out already you should hes makes real nice music.
But heres a link to silence so you no what sounds im looking for
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nymjfq2kXnI
Any noise really different to a wobble. Im using massive but seriously cant create any descent noises.
Tutorial would be gratefully appreciated?
I would be very happy if someoone could point me in the right direction?
Thanks a lot

Hello,
Try not to be like someone else allow them to influence you...
Right to make a big bassline you need to understand how it all works and the simplest way to do this is to use EQ and your levels
SUB/Kick/Bass/Mis/Top
So your learning then keep it simple, as you build up your level of understanding you can become more complex, aim for a simple two stage bass, then experiment with the sound
Create a sub using a sine wave add eq and put a low pass filter on filter out any frequency over say 90HZ this is now a sub sat at the bottom
SUB/
Next add an EQ to your drums and High Pass them at 90 making them sit on top of your sub
SUB/KICK/
Next add another synth select a simple wave form such as a triange 1 ocillator and add eq High Pass at 110 so it sits on the kick, try to make it sit between the kick and the snare by using your eq
SUB/KICK/BASS
now get a nice pattern going then start to experiment with the bass sound, add distortion maybe, maybe bitrate redecution, maybe add other ocillators maybe change the wave form to a square. a sawtooth... Maybe add a sample in this range and tune it to be part of the bass.... the world is now your oyster.
Look at compressing your Drums on a Send Channel for more weight, dont bother with compressing your bass for now just try to get a sound YOU LIKE not Datskiks...
Bear in mind that there have been a few posts about people hearing the same sounds in DATSIKS tunes and his response was he made them a while ago, by the time your ready to put out a tune that people will want to listen too that boat will have sailed a long time ago, so work on making your own sound.
Peace

Thanks for your informative post. I didnt understand it all

BUT I will try my best to learn each thing you said and apply it.
Also im not trying to copy there sound or be similar I just used them as an example to try and learn to do different noise with massive. Ive been playing for hours and getting something different I suppose.
I will be posting my track hopefully 2moz for lots of negative crititism and tips on mastering. Im very new, this is my second track!!! I hope you will all enjoy it when properly finished. will be very different to most!!! Really chilled but dark. well its missing the dark bit LOL

I just figured out how to make the excision style robo noise and ill give you some hints
1. you will need several oscillators with sawish type waves in the usual wobble format.
2. you will need to apply, distortion, waveshapping, xciter, reverb, chrorus. that is basically all you need, i will let you figure out what do do with those since half of the fun is learning and its taken me about 4 months to figure thsi out. a lot of people will tell you crazy shit about re sampling, layering and and dividing your sound via eq. they are not wrong but they are also not right. Obviously those things will give you further control over the sound but you can make it with just a synth and effects.
3. Have fun!

http://www.dubstepforum.com/topic91539-340.html
Thats the how too make this sound thread, loads of good info on it, and if you scroll down the page I linked you too, I posted a link too the talking wobbles thread in there. Though you said you want something different from wobbles, the distortion techniques I went over in the talking wobbles rant are applicable to any type of soun really, I use that tech for everything from my wubs too making drum samples...

Cheers guy, will put it all to practice 2moz.
Made some cool noises and a track 2day. Will be changing the noises and a decent bassline. I followed bassline step but it sounds rubbish. You cant hear it when the drums are playing???
Thanks

The Aphex Exciter is a lovely sounding exciter. very clean souding. bulky outboard gear is hassle though - so I sometimes use Hyperprism's Harmonic Exciter VST with a separate Bass Maximiser or the BBE Sonic Maximiser

Its a mixer insert effect?
And then you twiddle the knobs down low, make a nice pointy tit shape, and then automate those cutoffs muffucka...
Dubsac knows the power of the pointy tit.
