Quick question about ram

Quick question about ram

I've got a 4yr old dell dimenson which has 512k of ram in one slot, badly need to get another 512 but i guess theres a few different types so do i need to find out what type n get the same or is there a standard...money is pretty precious right now so i don't wanna get stuck wit summat that doesn't work.

sorry if that sounds stupid, i know shit all about pc hardware but i figure a few of you might. thanks.

I use a mac and the places i've been to (on the net) to buy ram have functions where you can give the info about what mac you have and it will then tell you what ram is appropriate and how much you can put in the machine. It's really easy. I would imagine there is something like this for pc's but, not using one i can't be sure...I'll have a scout around for you and if i find a place like this for pc's i'll leave the link....

I've used these guys before and i would highly recomend them. I ordered the ram on a friday afternoon and it came at 8am the next day.... These are the people that have the functions a was taling about... :D

how bad is your 512 PC>.. what can it handle etc?
cos im thinkin of buying my mates P4 2.8 512ram to use with ableton..
how much can you build a tune til it starts playin up?

foamo, its all good bro never had any probs with ableton. its just when i'm runnin kontakt and a few minimonstas and about twenty waves efx plugins that the stutter takes over. basically i'm a greedy bugger and i hate bouncing stuff cos once i do i always want to change that part. think the spec you mention is identical to mine.

want to able to use massive too

yea man go to crucial for sure, ive used them before to upgrade my roomates dell dimension!

there are many types and putting the wrong one in could screw up you new purchase and maybe the computer.

to be on the safe side I would contact dell and ask them, or a friend who knows something about computers.

Actually if you go through the support section of the dell webste there is a memory selection section. that will at least give you the specs of the stuff u need

i got ram from them last week actually, good service they've got there, i wouldnt have had a clue which ram i needed to get.
