This has to be the best quote off the fanpage :
''Your music makes me feel alive.. like i can live... coz i don't feel filled with emotion unless your type of music coems on, it like sets the MOOD!!!''

Errrrrrrrr? Im guessing he means Dynamite?H: Who are your main musical influences?
J: I personally like Roni Size, mainly because he raps in his music. It just sounds a lot more unique than a lot of the mainstream stuff out there.
Whatever you say about his music (and I dont like it but horses for courses and all that) he shouldn't have any excuses to be as ignorant about a music scene that he clearly thinks he is a part of or whatever.
Plus the question refers to musical influences, if you dont even know fuck all about your own musical influences then what chance have you got?

you guys take it all too serious. when someone says stuff like that, just leave it... he'll disappear anyway soon.

I've got nothing personal against the guy but he doesn't really come across as the most passionate about music, disappearing soon indeed.
Re: Why is Mt. Eden so popular?
The only good thing in his tracks are the samples. He somehow manages to butcher those as well though, with the insanely-loud snares that drown out the entire track and the insanely-low wobbles in the background.

That interview was done years ago. Besides, since when was it a rule that musicians had to have dictionary like knowledge of artists and track names? Just cos he isn't into the same shit you guys are doesn't make him any less passionate about what he does. He has been doing this for nearly 5 years now. He may not know or care about history or anything like that, he just does his thing, and people dig it. He has been doing just fine doing what he has doing, and just because he isn't an expert on burial or mala doesn't make him any less passionate about the music he makes.
And about his production, he has never had any help or training in anything to do with music production. He is entirely self taught, with no label or ANYONE to help him, so of course it's going to be a bit rough in the mastering etc. He does it all through a pair of shitty logitec speakers. And by the looks of it, noone really gives a fuck about the technicalities anyway, they enjoy the music for what it is.
haha, besides, he's exploding, you guys aren't, so this thread is pointless really, falling to deaf ears.

welcome to being a dj. whatever genre, whatever club.shaan wrote:i care because I keep getting wasted assholes shoving their cellphones under my nose then getting pushy when I don't play what they want
also - accessable sounds work well with non-sceneheads and underground music not as big as everyone thought shocker?
being new to dubstep in general (via martyn, burial, distance, vex'd etc) i cn see why people buy into it. it's not hard to listen to, it's got elements they're already comfortable with.
like the difference between bob marley and mad professor, some people say they like reggae when they like bob marley... just means they don't know as much as you.

i wouldn't call it dubstep, the only similarity is it is round the same bpm.

Re: Why is Mt. Eden so popular?
Exactly, it's not dubstep. Because i posted a comment on that shit siera leone song now homophobe. comments my tunes on youtube saying "this is shit mt eden is better" when its 100% different from that peice of shit.
Re: Why is Mt. Eden so popular?
haha this made me lol and rage at the same time. I just looked at the tune that mt eden sampled (basically the same song just with added drums and less vocals). And the first comment is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-5GzjsxGU0haha, the dub version has more views LONG LIVE DUB!

Re: Why is Mt. Eden so popular?
Got a few requests for mt eden. Personally think the production value is poor. I know some people go for an underproduced sound but some of his tracks are quite unlistenable imo

You may know this already, but Roni Size is playing London's The Scala on Thursday as part of 12x12 - anyone who sees him rapping, be sure to report back here... Also taking part in this celebration of classic dancefloor anthems: Peter Hook, Martyn Ware, Arthur Baker, A Guy Called Gerald, Jazzie B etc... True. Just how many YouTube links on facebook have I seen till today? Not that bad music though, but it's far from what I expect from dubstep.SketchyDub wrote:poor production, tried to remix burial for christ's sake!
He's for the kids who know nothing about actual dubstep just "youtubestep" ?
